If you have two three days to spare from your busy schedule and wanna planning for a short trip, I suggest to be in Ayodhya Hills, a place still virgin and unexplored. There was a time when it was under disturbance from the naxalites but those days are a history now. Why I choose to write about this place is that I visit this place at least twice a year once at the time of Dol Purnima / Holi and once in the year end.
A cool drive from Kolkata(324kms) through the well maintained national and state highways covering jungle and a little of hill roads will boost your mind, and trust me you will enjoy the ride. Those who prefer train may get down at Barabhum station on South Eastern railways which is 22 kms from Baghmundi, the gateway of Ayodhya Hills. Alternatively Purulia station is 54kms away from Baghmundi, from where one can avail reserved cars that charges approx Rs.2000 to be there. Lots of bus ply to Purulia but you have only direct bus to Baghmundi from Kolkata.
If you can shred some extra bucks stay atop the hills in different Forest Department or private hotels and off course they are few so be cautious to have an advanes booking specially at the season time. Else I suggest to be at Aronyok resort located at the convenient place down the hills near the famous Lahori temple close to Lower Dam.
Must visit local sight seeing includes Upper & Lower Dam, Bamni and Turga Falls, Dowri khal, Khoriebera lake, Lahori Shiv mondir, Pakhi pahar, Murugma lake, and off course Charida, a small village famous for chou mask.
Have more time, if so, visit Rajrappa mondir in Jharkhand(88kms).
one more thing ask your hotel to arrange a Chou dance programme in the evening. Camp fire is also a good option.
Best time to visit November to March.
Lastly a place that will transform your mind and surely energise your body and soul.
