Recently I went to the newly opened PVR cinema in Hyderabad. And this is what I feel about it: The place is excellent.
Booking the ticket: I booked my ticket online and I really liked the process. On the website you select the number of tickets and also choose the seating. Then they take the credit card details and confirm the transaction. It should be noted here that you are not charged yet! It is at the theater that you actually sign and the card is processed. I like this process cause, unlike Prasads, here people who really want the tickets book it.
The Place: The place is right in the center of the city, which is both good and bad. Good because it is very easily accessible and bad because this easy access includes at least 20-30 minutes of extra time wasted in the horrendous Hyderabad traffic. The theater is on the 5th floor of Hyd Central Complex. Getting there is not a cakewalk either. There are a few lifts but then 5 – 10 mins should be set aside to mount the peak. Inside, we get the feeling that we r in some sort of a modified space ship and the feeling is Excellent. But the place is a bit too cramp. When I went, only 3 out of the 5 screens were operational. Now I don’t want to even imagine when the 5 are open.
Inside: The red theme is exceptional. The seating comfort is out of this world. You get the felling of sitting in a Business class. You can enjoy even the most boring movie here. But this entire thrill is gone when suddenly u listen to the latest ring tone going louder than the extraordinary sound system. I seriously feel that the authorities should do something about cell phones being used during the movie.
The Add-ons: The ticket is Rs. 90, which is expensive but the very reasonable for the place that it is! Then the food. I thing it is pure exploitation. 25 rupees for a small size soft drink is “looting at gun point”. I thing they should seriously reconsider the food pricing. The parking is free but a bit tricky. But the way they manage the parking should be appreciated. My verdict: Hyderabad needs places like this. I would go there but I will not be a regular there. It is excellent for once in a while good movie.
