A Neat Multiplex

Ever since they’ve opened shop, it seems that all of Bangalore is at PVR Cinemas in Forum Mall. And there’s good reason, no doubt. It’s a neat job of a Multiplex. The theaters are contemporary in their design and furnishing. One might suspect the screens to be small with so many screens in one complex (which is the case with most of the multiplexes). I don’t know if its an illusion of smart interiors & lighting but I perceived the screens as large as any other stand-alone theater boasting of a 70mm Vistarama Screen. Sound is good, not very jarring. I’ve had the opportunity of watching 3 movies at PVR and I was lucky to have 3 different screens each time. I find that all the theaters are standardized in their appearance and comfort levels and it would be hard to tell them different from each other. This I think is very critical because then one does not have to worry about which theater one is going to end up in, especially in a situation where you have the same movie playing on multiple screens. The snack bars are good, a trifle expensive though. But I guess one ought to pay the price for the ambiance & the professional service. And I price does not seem to be consideration for the Bangaloreans because the snack counters witness serpentine queues during the intervals and otherwise. The rest rooms are well maintained. (Hope the standards of cleanliness are not short-lived). And since the whole of Bangalore is there all the time, the ticket counters are perpetually hidden behind an ocean of people. It would be sensible to plan for a movie in advance by using the on-line booking option or call in for a home delivery of the tickets. Even then, one has to jostle in the frenzy to exchange the coupons for the tickets when one lands up at the theater. The only respite being that the seats are guaranteed. It would be great if one could walk into the theater with the on-line booking coupon or the phone booking coupon. The tickets are priced higher than the regular theaters but it does not seem to be a problem for the rest of the Bangaloreans. So I console myself that its probably value for money and hope they maintain the same standards in the days to come. And of course, their off-peak hour shows are priced lower which is a sensible strategy to pull in the masses.
