Like most good things in Mumbai, the multiplex boom in the city is predominantly happening on the west side. Cineplanet, situated next to the Sion Circle, is a welcome exception. Though a bit crammed in terms of waiting space at the lobby, the resurrection of the once shoddy Rupam theatre is heartening.
Till recently Cineplanet had five screens. During my visit to the theatre last weekend, I learnt that they have added two more screens. Like most multiplexes in Mumbai, Cineplanet is slick ? good projection, digital sound, comfortable pushback seats with drink holders, etc. etc. They also generally run the new releases from both Bollywood and Hollywood.
If you do not mind to part with around 1K, at least one of the screens offers exclusive enclave of around 10 seats. If you can spend a bit more, you can book even an entire screen (one of the smaller ones) for a show. Get some coke and popcorn along with your birthday cake and you would be throwing an interesting birthday party (not sure whether this hall offers choice in terms of the movie you would like to see under such block booking, Glamour at Gaiety-Galaxy multiplex offers that too). Cineplanet is high-end with computerised and (free, yes free) home delivery of tickets (I had a ticket stub in my purse, the number is 2684 1616). 9 in 10 occasions you would get a ticket for the current show if you drop in 15 minutes in advance even during a week end. You also get some interesting beverage here.
