Parodical scrutiny of all love related effects!

To be honest I’d initially ventured to watch the movie only to use it as an excuse to watch daredevil babe Mallika Sherawat in action considering it’s been 2 long years since I last saw her exploits in ‘Murder’. Little did I know that I would actually end up focusing on the movie, [besides her] that is. No, but seriously I came back, not with some trivial hormonal satisfaction but the kind one gets after seeing a nice, practical , hilarious movie which everyone living a day to day normal life can relate to.

THE CAST:

Rahul Bose:aka Sid.A DJ hailing from Mumbai who accidentally meets Trisha during her initial wedding.

Mallika Sherawat:aka Trisha. An army officer’s daughter from Delhi.

Ranvir Shorey:aka Nanoo. Neighbour to Sid and a close friend.

Sapna Bhavnani:aka Nina  Nanoo’s heartthrob.

Jas Arora:aka Vivek Chaddha.Youngest CEO of India, a close friend of Trisha’s father.Poor guy has to suffer a lot of heartache.

Sophiya Chaudhary:aka Baby Girl Vol. 3 (Tanya). An item girl who falls for Sid.

Suchitra Pillai-Malik:aka Anjali. Trisha’s best friend , ever ready to suck every ounce of  Sid’s integrity out of him.

Tarana Raja: aka Shalini. Sid’s ever cribbing and ever helpful-percipient sister.

Aaamir Bashir: aka Kapil. Shalini’s husband who is suffering from the side effects of marriage.

What’s it about?

Well, to start with we get introduced to the characters. Trisha who’s not sure about her boyfriend for 6 months, Vivek decides to ditch him on his marriage itself running away to Mumbai instead. There, as luck would have it she meets Sid again, the DJ whom she had once met at her ‘wedding which wasn’t to be’. They become close friends in spite of having differences and in a few months time, amidst watching a cricket match, she puts forward the subject of marriage, and Sid totally unprepared for such an outburst, makes a hash of it, his attention totally in the cricket match. Also, partly because he was scared of such a huge commitment, dithering from the prospect of being a total marital failure like his father.

Not wanting to hurt her, he agrees to Trisha’s proposal. On being introduced to her father though, he’s a total flop and he tries his best to drive Sid away from his daughter’s life. Frustrated with her father’s chivvying and compulsive behavior , he admits his true feelings on marriage, which paves the way for an eventual break-up.

Meanwhile there are several funny side stories involving Sid’s best friend Nanoo, his split with long time girlfriend Nina and how he suffers from a forced tenure of celibacy owing to scarcity of women in his life. Then, we also have his sister Shalini’s joke of a marriage with Kapil who is exasperated with her demands and her sudden mood  swings.

In a desperate effort to come to terms with the split, Trisha tries to distract herself with excessive shopping and setting up a marriage with Vivek once again, whilst our hero Sid is busy healing his heart with some sentimental music. He tries distracting himself with other women only to discover that his hormones weren’t reacting in their usual way to ‘the external stimulation’ that was dished out to him.

Eventually being fed up with trying to get over her in numerous ways, he makes up his mind to win her back, determined to convince her to ditch Vivek yet again. Find out the rest yourself if you want to enjoy this naturally funny film.

So, what makes this movie with a not so uncommon plot a good watch?

1. The greatness of this movie is not in its hackneyed plot but its awesome execution. The director pauses at every event with a moral, with Rahul Bose being a narrator here as well, to emphasize the obvious eccentricity. It has a style of its own which is sure to draw in the crowds for something new to experience.

2. The best thing about the movie is that the events speak louder than the actions and words of the artists. A naturally funny situation is a better aphrodisiac for humor than it being created at the hands of others.

3. Rahul Bose was real good notching up a ‘numero uno’ performance with his naïve and ponderous reactions to happenings, being the key to his humor.

4. She might be more noticeable because of other traits but believe me this gal can act as well. She was never shy of expressing herself and she has channelised it well in this movie, switching from a highly demonstrative mode to sudden innocence which is bound to invoke laughter.

5.  There was a lot of talk before the movie was released that Rahul  and  Mallika just don’t make a pair of any sort. But I’d like to differ here. I think they were pretty good together, Rahul the didactic and adventurous type and Mallika the daring type. They complement each other very well indeed!

6. The main story might be about Rahul and Mallika , but every character in this movie although with smaller parts has performed equally well , which helped maintain the funny flow of this movie.

7. The most refreshing thing to see was that it wasn’t contrived comedy when the actors are trying to force something funny out of a situation like what our very own Salman Khan tends to do. Here, we are solely dealing with real-to–life characters and situations and they help make this highly enjoyable and believable comedy.

OTHER THINGS ABOUT THE MOVIE

1.This wasn’t the songs and special effects kind of movie, in the sense they won’t have any bearing on your liking or disliking the movie. There were a few though, the trendy type , i guess ’Pyaar Karke’ by Labh Janjua would be my cream of the crop.

2.Very light movie, nothing aggravated inside that cranium of ours. So, perfect to serve the purpose of a break from boredom and stress.I would rate it ideal for timepass or a mood lightener.

3.Although it’s fine to watch with friends I wouldn’t recommend this as a family movie. One could end up finding oneself embarassed on occasions if that were to happen.

Go for it without a second thought. You’d definitely be missing a lot if you don’t. I for one can vouch for the fact that I would’ve been sorry to miss out on all this fun!
