Never Again...Even if it is the only alternative

I am frankly appauled by this sorry excuse for an airline. I am usually fairly generous in terms of evaluating airlines being an extremely frequent flyer internationally, I tend to be aware of standards. However Qantas has got to be by far the worst airline I have flown. Flying economy class from on an 8 hour Mel-Sin flight was truly an experience I will not forget although believe me I would like to.

Having suddenly recieved a call to do a business call in Singapore, I hurriedly purchased my ticket on the phone an got to the airport. Check in took over three hours. The check in person greeted me very cheerfully until she layed her eyes on my Indian passport. Immiedietly her face shrivelled into this sullen mess. I was alloacted a middle seat even though I was checking in 2 hours earlier and the flight was not at all full as I realized earlier.

We boarded around 15 minutes late. No reason given forget apologies. Once on the plane we were waiting for a further hour, again no explanation leave alone any hint of remorse. Be thankful for flying with Qantas!!!

Oh and I have truly forgotten to mention the cabin and seat. Well, the boeing 767 looked quite ol with fabrics coming off the seats. The legroom and seat width was so constricted that my knees literally were jammed to the seat in front of me. This despite me being lean and 5 ft 11 which is not abnormally tall. Forget PTV’S and you would be lucky if you could see half the monitor showing some crappy movie.

Food inedible. Drinks served twice with meals. But let me get to the most scandalous part of the review. The extremelyy friendly and loving cabin crew of Qantas. In case you did not guess, I was being sarcastic. I was seated in the middle row with 3 seats. Besides me was a fifteen year old school girl and adjacent to her was a whole group of school kids travelling on some school trip with thier teacher seated in front. Mid-way through the flight while serving a meal one of the FA’s accidently spilled orange juice on herself and the student. It was clearly her clumsiness but instead of being apologetic she started yelling at the student telling them they dont know how to behave and they were being disruptive. I could not believe my ears as the students had been mostly quiet in the flight and were quiet. The fifteen year old girl besides me was crying. I was truly shocked but did not say anything.

Two hours passed, suddenly this crazy FA came back with two male stewards and ruffled this girl so hard that she nearly fell to the ground. I was startled but before I could speak. The crazy FA started accusing this girl of stealing her shoes (how ridiculous). And what was her rationale that she had just been to the toilet and galley when it was unattended and well she was doing it to spite her cuz she yelled at her. If you can actually believe any sane person can behave like this. This 40 something woman was behaving like a child. Being publicaly humiliated this poor young girl started sobbing denying it while the crew members started to search her bags. I was quite shocked and told the crew members that they had no business yelling at a child like that and they should immidietly apologize. One of the male crew members actually told me to ’’Shut up’’ and if I said anything more they would hand me into the authorities for disruption of flight. I was so infuiriated that I called upon the inflight pursur. To my shock he agreed with them despite me never using any loud tones or abusive language. Other passengers seated around me also protested and were also threatned. The group’s teacher by now had arrived and was clearly peturbed by the way the student had been handled.

Of course the shoes did not turn up in the students baggage or in her seat, and it was later found in some part of the galley. But the poor girl was traumatized and was humiliated. Worse still no apology or acknowledgement was made and the FA kept ignoring our row.

The inflight pursur also did not bother to apologize. I offered the school teacher my card and told her that I would be glad to help in case they were considering complaining to the consumer rights associations as the girl was very upset and the crew had been very nasty to her.

All I can say is that I resent this treatment by the FA’s and in fact I myself was threatened. Believe me I reserve the lowest rating for this airline and would truly advise anyone against flying this airline. It is truly appauling. If there was a no stars rating or negative rating this airline would truly get it.
