Technical Showdown!

Alright now, why I?m even writing this review is unclear to me? ?and yes, the review is of a movie which is not ?recent?, to put it that way?and as I can see, not a lot of people seem to like it?

QAYAMAT?City Under Threat? is a technical masterpiece?considering Indian standards? (us Indians aren?t really used to all of the matrix style fighting?we?re more at home with the dishum-dishum?).

Basically, the story is about Ali (Arbaaz Khan) and Abbas (Sanjay Kapoor), two brothers working as arms dealers along with Laila, (Isha Koppikar), the love of their life. They?re closely working with the ISI in order to bring chaos in Mumbai and ultimately, the whole of India.

The weapon that they will employ comes in the form of a deadly virus which they have fitted into 7 missiles and these missiles are positioned to attack the 7 lakes in Mumbai. Their demands are quite simple, either they are given $150 billion, plus a ship to cross the naval border and into Pakistan, or they will blast the missiles into the 7 lakes of Mumbai.

This could prove to be disastrous as the virus contaminates both water and air if exploded.

Rahul, (Ashish Chowdhry), is the scientist who was in the process of creating an anti-virus, but, before he is able to create it, the virus is smuggled out of the lab by a colleague (Chunkey Pandey) of his and lands into the hands of Ali and Abbas.

Akram Sheikh (Suniel Shetty) is a CBI Officer and he is the one called to take charge of the Mission. He basically has to kill Ali, Abbas and all the other terrorists holding 213 hostages captive in Elphinston (sorry, is that how you spell it?) Jail. But, as Ali and Abbas have placed a lot of technical hurdles in place, it is impossible for Akram do carry out this Mission with just his commandoes, so he asks Rachit (Ajay Devgan) to help him. Rachit once worked with Ali and Abbas but now is their enemy. He resides in jail as a convict, charged with murder.

Rachit now though, is lifeless as memories of his love, Sapna (Neha Dhupia) haunt him day and night.

He is important for the Mission because he was the only convict in History to escape Elphinston Jail through its underground labyrinth. He ?agrees? to help. As in, he remains silent and thus, Akram takes his silence as a ?yes?.

Anyways, Akram, along with 10 commandoes, Rahul and Rachit prepare to enter the unknown? What happens next? Do they succeed?

Okay, seeing as that was quite long?I?ll get straight to the point now?

It was a fabulous movie. The opening scene was superb?and horrific. Technical brilliance?stylish?wonderful. Seriously, the technical part of the film had no glitches?even I, being a girl and all, loved the action sequences! Too Good Yaar (mate)!

This movie contains a lot of sci-fi jargons which I suppose may seem alien to rural communities?but what, now with cable in every household, I don?t think there would have been any trouble in understanding all the talk about biological weapons?man, nowadays, even a 5 year old would know all about ?weapons of mass destruction? thanks to you-know-who.

This movie contains the good vs. evil plot seen many times, but it takes a refreshing look at it. But my only comment on this is that they should seriously stop polarizing Pakistan and India. Pakistanis are NOT evil and Indians are NOT angels. Come on; let?s be a little more realistic. And of course Suniel?s consistent Pak-bashing really got to me, all of his ?mahaan? (great) dialogues dealing with patriotic beliefs etc are not impressive, really, they look like they?ve been just included in order to receive cheers from the ignorant population of India. Was there any use of the ?India Cake?? NO.

The movie, as I said before, starts brilliantly, but loses momentum as soon as we get to Rachit and Sapna?s love story?at this point; I usually resort to pressing the ?search? button. It?s a maha-bore (great bore)! Neha just cannot act I?m telling you!

Post-Interval is where the fun starts! As in, Ashish Chowdhry displays his comical talent?he had me in fits of laughter, plus, he?s pretty good-looking! And then when Rachit actually gets up-and-about, the audience is constantly kept at the edge of their seats! The stunts are brilliant!

Harry Baweja?s QAYAMAT in my opinion, succeeded as a film. It kept the reviewer engaged?well that is if you edit the ?love story? parts. This movie?s overall plot etc was unexplored in Bollywood?biological weapons etc?I mean the basic plot was there?good vs. evil, but, it was still amazing!

Cinematography was awesome. This is one Hindi movie that I can watch with my Angrezi pals!

The underground sets, background score?SUPERB.

Music is melodious, but comes up too many times when Rachit?s love story is being narrated.

Ajay Devgan excelled in a role that required him to express all emotions of anger, pain, and anxiety through his eyes. The majority of the second-half witnessed his silence?he was so cool man!

Suniel Shetty is terrific, save for his Pak-bashing, but that is not his fault, he didn?t write the script now did he?

Ashish Chowdhry is great, his first movie and he was great.

Riya Sen is so-so. Neha Dhupia is below average.

Sanjay Kapoor, Arbaaz Khan and Isha Koppikar were brilliant as the villains. They depicted the characters of crazed lunatics pretty well. Plus, I loved their jokes that they cracked!

QAYAMAT, in MY OPINION, is a great movie. If you haven?t already seen it, watch it!
