St. Sauvier des Monts, Quebec

My husband and I visited St. Sauvier in April of 1996 for our honeymoon and found the area to be absolutely beautiful.

We picked the condo and town out of a travel book, having never been to Canada before, We arrived at the airport on April 14, 1996 to a huge blizzard, now even in RI it doesn’t snow past April, we found our luggage and the car rental, got our maps, the agent gave us directions to the condo which was about 45 minutes away and we were on our way.

Getting around was interesting. We got into the car and looked around, EVERYTHING was in French, I guess we weren’t thinking too clearly when we chose our destination, but we knew we were going to have a great time.

We found the highway and our town without too much of a problem, The town of St. Sauvier is a little ski town nestled in the mountains, the view is incredible, I can’t even describe it. The air was fresh and clear, for the first time in my life I could breathe without allergy medicine!

We checked into our condo, and checked the whole place out, we stayed at a condo called Hotel Chateaumont, We had a nice view of the street. lovely. The lobby had a beautiful view of the mountains, so I guess we were on the wrong side of the hotel! The weather was great, springlike the whole time, we were out there in sweaters doing alot of walking while everyone else was bundled up like it was freezing! There were tons of shops, and even more restaurants. The people were very friendly as well. We did alot of shopping and tried several of the restaurants. The prices were a little higher than what we were used to, but we got more money when we cashed in our money, so I think it worked out to be pretty much the same. Going into a grocery store where everything was french was mind blowing!

We hardly used the rental car at all, we did alot of walking since it was such a small town and parking wasn’t that great. We did do a few day trips to Montreal and some of the neighboring towns. All in all, it was a great trip and we met alot of great people. and made wonderful memories.
