Qurbani....was the third film by Feroz Khan as producer and director. Earlier two being Apradh and Dharmatma. I would anytime rate Qurbani as Feroz Khan’s second best film till date. The best ofcourse being Jaanbaaz.
It had all the ingredents of a hit movie. Action, Story, Music, Performances etc which made it one of the bigest hits of the 80s.
Its the story of Rajesh (Feroz Khan) who is a small time crook and his girlfriend Sheila (Zeenat Aman) who is a dancer at night club. Rajesh is cought by the Police Inspector Khan (Amjad Khan) in one of the small theft and is sentenced to 2 years of imprisonment. In the prison he meets Shakti Kapoor, a erstwhile prince whose wealth is snatched by Raka (Amrish Puri). Shakti gives the job of stealing his wealth back from Raka to Rajesh for a certain amount.
Enters Amar (Vinod Khanna) whose has a lovely daughter and no one knows anything about his past except that he had a beautiful wife. He too falls for Sheila without knowing about Amar.
Once released from prison, Shelia doesnot allow Rajesh to get indulged in roberry again and in the quarrell burn the money lent by Shakti. Now Shakti is bent after Rajesh to get the work done. During one of the encounters with Rajesh, he happens to confront with Amar and their enimity starts.
Shakti gets Amar beaten by his men, Rajesh intevenes and saves him at the neck of time. Then their friendship grows.
Both hatch a plan to steal Raka wealth and push off to London. But Shakti and his sister are more cunning and smart then them. And we also have inspector Khan chasing them.
In the final scene, we have a situation where one of them needs to give Qurbani and Amar jumps in to save his friend.
I just wonder why such a lovely film never got any Filmfare award except for Best Female Singer (Nazia Hassan).
Everytime this movie is on Zee Cinema, I am glued watching it.
We have the best performances to date by everyone starting from Feroz Khan, Vinod Khanna, Zeenat Aman, Aruna Irani, Shakti Kapoor and above all Amjad Khan. I would rate his best performance other than in Sholay.
Feroz Khan’s favourites Kalyanji-Anandji had scored the music which was a rage in those days espically Laila Mein Laila and Aap Jaisa Koi.
Photography is always a highlight in all Feroz Khan films and so was in Qurbani all credit to Kamal Bose.
