Ravan: An artistic masterpiece!
Mani Ratnam’s Ravan, brings out the demon in the central character, and gets you to wonder ‘How on earth can someone so bad be so good for some people?’
So, Beera is the modern day Ravan, played to perfection by Abhishek Bachchan, his best portrayal to date. And the modern day Seeta, is Aishwarya, or Ragini, the local village IPS officer’s wife, whom Beera has kidnapped.
Ratnam’s brilliant direction of Beera’s character brings out the most primitive and primal emotions of violence, survival and brutality of a human being. Beera has 10 heads, is knowledgeable, is the modern day Robin Hood, but has the whole world against him. But ironically, he is also the saviour of the poor and downtrodden, who look up to him, who fights the system and categorically exclaims that he is against the richer ‘junta’ who make life hell for those of his likes.
Govinda, is extremely life like and has acted very well in the movie. The music suits the character portrayals well and the locations where the film is shot are breathtaking.
3 cheers to Ratnam sir, for this artistic masterpiece. Ragini’s husband, played by Vikram, plays the desperate husband and looks good doing just that. The screenplay by Ratnam sir is perfect and the dialogues by VK Acharya bring out the essence of the characters.
Ash looks brilliant as ever and is made to do some serious stunts, which are quite difficult, even to watch. It must have been hell to shoot in the forests of Madras, but how the crew managed, is quite an achievement in itself.
All in all, a mean treat for the senses!
