Mocking an epic

Perhaps, I am very late in writing a review. The fact that they screened this movie in TV soon after its release speaks volumes on what drivel this movie is. I am still left wondering what Mani Ratnam was trying to do with such a stupid story and making a mockery out of a strong star cast. As the villain Abhishek hardly does justice to the role. Maybe the weak script is to blame. He says bak...bak..bak... which is reality is the shortened version of Bakwaas, bakwaas, bakwaas. Vikram as the gun toting police who doubts his wife is another waste of screen space and time. Ash looks good in some scenes but is grossly under utilized in the movie. The director shows so many scenes near the water falls and the water spray just seems to rise - you are left wondering if you are going wet behind the ears.

The tale is a very loose adaptation of an epic. But I must credit the director with a 100/100 for choosing Govinda to play the role of Hanuman in the real epic.

GOVINDA as a MONKEY steals the show. You just realize the sly way in which the director uses Govinda’s talents. The best thing in the movie other than the intermission, is Govinda playing a monkey - apt selection. He fits the bill fully.

I still remember the way we got a ticket to this movie - second show on the day of its release, I still remeber how fogged the audience were when they came out of the cinema hall, I still remember squirming in my seat after the first 10 minutes of drivel, the theatres were locked from outside so that we could not escape halfway through. AR Rehman’s music provides some relief though its stereotypical.

I fail to understand the changing landscapes - a parched village, a festival, a marriage ceremony and suddenly waterfalls and hills and the mist. The movie is not definitely worth watching. I am still trying to find if I can sue the director to refund the money which I spent on buying tickets. The movie is certified as ’VIEWER DISCRETION ADVISED’. I misinterpreted it as the content in the movie, while the certification is for the movie in itself.

Crap, rubbish, idiotic.... I am lost for words to describe this movie.
