I am not a Shahrukh Khan fan and so went for this movie with a neutral opinion. I would say the movie was good, but so are several other movies which are released every other month.
If Shahrukh and Aditya Chopra are going to give us one movie in one full year and this movie is going to be that movie, then I am gonna say - boss you have lost your touch.
The weakest point of the movie is its story/plot. The story is interesting in parts and there are scenes which you would think could easily have been cut(probably they did not want to make a 2 hour movie). The plot is simple and the ending is obvious. People mentioned a good climax in all their reviews, but I would say the climax of this movie was pretty predictable. All my friends could guess it by the interval.
Moreover, none of us could digest the fact that a wife is not able to recognize her husband in a different make-up. I mean, even if the director argues that Shahrukh looked very different in 2 roles, but she should have recognized his voice at least. And that too when she was meeting both the characters daily for a pretty long time.
The protagonist of the movie, Shahrukh(Suri) is one simple man working in a govt. organization in Amritsar who believes in simple living and low ambitions in life. He gets married to a bubbly girl by nature(Tanni) who has been mellowed down because of a big tragedy in her life. Suri falls in love with his new bride but simple as he is, he could never muster enough courage to tell this to her directly. She, on the other hand, was bold enough to tell him that she can never love him.
In the quest to win brides heart, Suri finds an unusual way of dancing. With the help of one of his best buddies, he gets into the character of a supposedly cool-dude-of-Amritsar and becomes the dance partner of Tanni who herself is a dancing freak wanting to participate in a dance competition.
Towards the later part of the movie, there are severe emotional turmoils in the girls mind when she realizes that she is actually in love with the cool-dude Shahrukh. Alls well that ends well, there is a climax dance sequence, confusions are cleared and the husband-wife start living happily ever after.
Well, as I said initially, the movie was not all that boring. Songs were nice, and Shahrukh has acted really well(I can probably even risk to say that this was one of his best performances of his career). Vinay Pathak was also good in his character.
Cinematography was immaculate; some awesome scenes of Amritsar have been captured in the movie. Dialogues were good at certain points but were a little confusing at other points.
And yes, do not miss the end rolling credits.
Overall, the movie is cerainly a one time watch(probably on DVD); but is certainly not going to be the movie of 2008.
