I wish I could abuse here in writing and empty myself. I will try to narrate my families experience, with the best possible knowledge. Hospital and staffs are cheaters.
My Grandmother (Naniji) close to everyone in our family, diamond of our eye, was admitted on 24th Dec, with pneumonia like condition. Once admitted late at night, around 3:00AM, the staff suggested my brother to have brought her after 8:00AM. Such foolish staff, who cannot even understand the importance of emergency hospitalization. Infact the general staff of the hospital, even for that matter staff in the CCU, seems ruthless. Politeness in medical profession is of utmost priority and we all know it. Entire 24th Dec 2021, she was kept in the isolation ward without treatment. Then on 25th and 26th Dec, the doctors, I think Dr. Surjan Bardhan and D B Ray were busy partying for Christmas and hence no one provided proper medication to her. Kolkata has this new trend of Christmas parties. And then there is shortage of everything during this time, even for that matter proper medical staff. She was just left on Saline, on the advise of the doctors assistant, for these two days. She was kept in CCU, where there is a dedicated time slot between 4-5PM.
The elevator preserved from the 1947 era, left by the Britishers in Calcutta, especially for this hospital, has been finally installed here. It takes 15-20Mins for patients family to reach the room of the patient. And by this time the visiting hour seems to be coming to an end. Anyways. Now my Grandmother finally started receiving medication from 27the Dec. She seemed to be ok till 28th Dec and talking to everyone.
On 29th she was semi-conscious and finally on 30th and 31st Dec stated to be in a critical state and our family was called-in to do the final rituals of meeting her. Since 1st Jan 2022, she was lying unconscious. The hospital staff would call at night, after 9:00 PM to state how critical the patient is and has to be put on ventilator. We had received a call for ventilator on 30th. Then on 1st Jan 2022, we were asked to put her on Dialysis. You ask the doctor what went wrong and he mentions her old age. And the doctors have not been readily available for proper advise. They are so busy earning ready money from other patients, that they forget to look after patients already under care in CCU and paying exorbitant money to get cured. Dr. Saurabh Maji started treating her recently. And he had no clue on what he was doing. D B Ray atrociously egoist, a Nephrologist was treating her, when she had no kidney infection. Marjaye-paji-Maji had no clue on what he was doing. Never did he advise our family on what is wrong and what should be the next course. You ask the doctors about what is in the patients report and they say, they have forgotten to look at the reports.
Till date we do not know what had gone wrong with her health. What really happened.
The pneumonia/lung infection got severe to this extent?
Was this not treatable at such an early stage?
Was age a deterrent for someone to heal, despite being fortunate of an early diagnosis and not being critically ill?
When she was conscious, suddenly, why was a Ventilator advised for her?
And then calls are only made after 9:00 PM to us. Each day her condition was deteriorating. I was just nervous they do not ask us for her heart and lung transplant. Pun intended. I stay in Gurgaon and personally always preferred Kolkata Doctors and for that matter Kolkata treatment over treatment in Delhi/NCR. Now I have lost the trust. I always thought at least Doctors of Kolkata are more humane. But looking at DB Ray, Surjan Bardhan and Saurabh Maji, I would say better to stay out of Kolkata. Such cocky attitude as if they have extreme political powers.
Another thing that we observed was that they do not want to hand over the patients report to you. They cannot tolerate your intention of showing this report to another doctor for consultation. Also, when a patient is in CCU, one attendant, usually a family member, is allowed to stay with the patient. But no one was allowed to stay from our family. Intact they also created a scene when my family members wanted to visit during normal visiting hours. Tedious process of getting emergency passes made, had to be followed. And as mentioned earlier, visiting hour was only for 1Hour.
I know it was COVID times, so they could have made a protocol of any member being allowed to stay and not being allowed to move out of the CCU. And the funny part was, there was so much queue in the hospital foyer and the ground floor area. Those people were anyways entering other floors and interacting with medical staff, who were without proper COVID kit.
Finally, as usual, since to uphold the sanctity of night calls after 9:00 PM, we received a call on the 3rd of Jan 2022, at around 9:30 PM. The hospital staff declared that the patients BP has dropped to 40/20. And then about after 15-20mins, another call was received stating my Grandmother had a cardiac arrest. Obviously, we were called in the hospital and they declared that my Grandmother was no more. I cannot express my pain.
I know we are mortals and have to leave for our heavenly abodes sometime. Only thought is no one should leave for this abode before their deserved time. I really think better treatment, Hospitals responsible attitude, no negligence and good doctor and staff behavior might have done better justice to us. And another thing to note is that the duo doctors seem to be rich as well looting people around. They seem to own Jaguars and other high-end cars. They seem to also have big houses, built from the loot. But at least with this review, others can benefit and do not face what my family is facing.
Beware everyone.
