I finally saw Race, and I thought it was a good film- surely not a brilliant film by any means, but it was an entertaining and good timepass for 2 and a half hours.
Im not going to talk about the story a whole lot- I know many people have seen it already, but its pretty much going to give away the story of the film if I say one thing about it. However, Ill talk about characterizations.
Saif Ali Khan plays Ranvir Singh. Hes a no nonsense guy and has a lot of goals in life he wants to accomplish. Hes the older of two brothers- the other brother is Rajiv Singh played by Akshaye Khanna.
Akshaye Khanna plays Rajiv Singh- hes an alcoholic, who doesnt really care much about the family business, and he also leads a laidback lifetsyle. Hes Ranvir Singhs younger brother, and is a complete contrast to him. As the younger brother, he always feels screwed over. Hes a bit jealous of Ranvir.
Bipasha Basu plays Shaina/Sonia?- is a ramp model in Capetown, she can attract men- and they all fall in love with her instantly, but shes not exactly a clean individual. She has a shady past behind her.
Katrina Kaif plays Sophia- Shes Ranvir Singhs business secretary. Shes attracted to Ranvir from day one, and does anything to get his attention.
Anil Kapoor- plays a cop named RD, who lives in South Africa and enjoys eating fruits. He comes in later as he tries to investigate a murder which takes place.
Sameera Reddy is Mini- shes RDs personal assistant, whos not quite fast in regards to understanding investigation. She accompanies him wherever he goes.
Now that Ive discussed the characterizations, its time to discuss my feelings towards the film.
It was a good movie, though I wished some songs were not there. They could have talked a little morea about the relationship between the two brothers in place of some of the songs. I feel like Abbas Mustan should have added in some more fire when explaining their relationship as brothers.
Also the climax sucked! What kind of way is that to end the film?
Moving onto the performances:
Saif Ali Khan- Did a good job as Ranvir Singh, though this performance is not his best obviously, and I was a little surprised to see how he didnt have that much screen time compared to Akshaye.
His best scene was the climax one.
Akshaye Khanna- had the biggest role in the film. He did a good job, though there were a couple times where went OTT- and thats understandable considering he was playing a short-tempered guy. He was otherwise pretty good in the scenes where he behaving normally and calmly.
Katrina Kaif- was horrible. Its about time she starts dubbing her dialogues!
Bipasha Basu- was very good, and its one of her best performances in recent times. I would say best after Corporate.
Anil Kapoor- acted very well, and made me laugh a lot.
Sameera Reddy- was also nice too.
Johnny Lever- was hillarious in his little cameo.
Overall dont expect a brilliant film- if you want to watch an entertaining movie with thrills, this is your film!
