This dates back to 2 years when I first listened to this FM station named RADIO CITY 91 FM. Though it started way back in 1999, it was not known to me and my car FORD IKON was not equipped with a car stereo when we bought it in january 2001. As I make my trip to Bangalore during my vacations, my dad finally put a car stereo in April 2002, that was when I first listened to this station. I was very excited when I heard all the english hits(in the day) and remixes(in the night). But the remix songs were aired only on saturday nights and the english and some hindi songs during the weekdays. I used to be in high spirits whenever I heard to this station and I was dissapointed too because I had to return to Mangalore after the 4 days trip. well never mind, I thought because I would be coming back to Bangalore again in october! But 4 days are too short a trip to enjoy this station. But the only advantage is that the radio signal range is upto 85 kms and I can still listen to it during the return journey!
Then came 2003 when I made my trip to Bangalore again and I was shocked when I heard only hindi songs and 4 days passed but still there was no english songs aired. I was terribly dissapointed because I came from Mangalore excited to hear to this station than to see Bangalore! But STAR PLUS soon aired an AD for the first time on RADIO CITY 91 FM ( u must have seen it) of airing hindi music 24 hours a day! Well that was almost the end of my excitement! well I thought the next time I go to Bangalore they would air kannada music, but unfortunately the dream came true! They did air some 2-3 music during the 4 days I was in Bangalore! The rest was all Hindi music, I would get a headache listening to it again and again! But the only thing still not changed in this station is their jingles. and I used to wait for it to get into the groove! Then they have some contests on each show they air for which they give u gifts like a cofee cup with RADIO CITY inscribed on it if u win. U can jus check by SMSing 7827 from which u can get JOKES, etc.
There are only two stations in Bangalore. One is this and the other is FM Rainbow.
FM Rainbow used to be a rather dull station where the radio jockey would just bore u away! But now they have changed, they air good songs, both hindi and english! well I got a sigh of relief that there is atleast one useful station in Bangalore! When u are in a metropolitan city like Bangalore u would surely like some english songs as well. And RADIO CITY was the first FM station to do so in Lucknow and Bangalore. But as soon as it moved to Mumbai and Delhi, everything changed! But they had problem with licensing issues too that led to the elimination of english songs. They had to pay a hefty licensing fee if they wanted to air english songs and it was too expensive for them! and its’s not just licensing issue, the people of Bangalore have started liking Hindi songs just like Mumbai and Delhi!
well it doen’t mean I hate this station. I wanted to just highlight the changes they have made to their station. I would still recommend u to hear to this station when u are in Bangalore Or Mumbai Or Delhi!
