FM = Frivillous 'n frothy music

Imagine an assorted cassette with the following order , ghazal from Jagjit singh, Aerosmith, popish thing from NSync, song from Dil Chahta hai ’n Moulin Rouge, AC/DC, bhangra from Daler Mehandi etc etc. This is exactly the mish-mash wierd combo of songs they dish out as a part of their mainstream entertainment.

They ’ve totally lost the focus as to which group of listeners they r catering to. Maybe I ’m wrong, I dunno , afterall they r running a commercial buisness ’n surely they want to attract all kind of listeners .Anyway a good option if u want something blabbering in the background whole day long , ’n listen on an average of 1 good song among 5-6 songs.Whatever may be the case one can sigh a breath of relief that FM arrived atlast , after ages to this silicon valley ’n hope this opens up more vistas for more FM channels, to think of more choices , till then enjoy what is there at hand ’n ’ve fun da!!

Rubbing salt into my wounds is my irritating neighbouring collegue who seems to ’ve a rush of adrenalin ’n increases the volume whenever a song is aired that prompts me to take a coffee break ’n mutes it whenever I go estatic. This is exactly the rollercoaster ride FM takes one thro’, from Cloud 9 one moment to the abyss very next .

But there r still some silver linings over weekend, where they ’ve lined up a club show with super DJ Ivan .This is hosted by who else , than ex-MTV VJ Rohit Barker , who is a MC (Master of ceremony) of almost any events held in B’lore pubs ’n is definitely the pick of all RJ’s on Radio city .But then again they ’ve got the timings totally goofed up, 7-10 pm for chrissake, when the targetted crowd is on brigades !!!! Is there a police ban to host it late night ? And most of the time I catch up only the beginning, which starts of sedately with hip-hop ’n I ’m sure the tempo will definitely hotten up later on at the end of the programme, after all one can be assured of quality music when Ivan is behind the console .(But sometimes I ’ve heard offbeat tracks, cmon I know the music can get much wicked than that!!)

But one unadulterated quality show seems to be the ’’World Chart Countdown ’’ with a decent RJ, John C on Saturdays(3-7pm ) with top 40 international songs of the week , truely with lots of intersting trivias.’’Sunday RetroShow’’ is another one to check out, but again timings r the things to crib about.Btw why r they so uncomfortably numb on rock/metal ? ’n seems to be totally forgotten , as there is no program dedicated to it , ’n is reduced to couple of tunes in the late show after 10pm.

The ’’Breakfast Show’’ is hosted by Vera( ex-RJ in Radio-Midday, Times-FM)along with Rohit. While chaos reign supreme starting from ’’Breakfast Show(7-11 am)’’, ’’11-2 pm’’ ’’Café Radio City( ’’2:00 pm - 6:00 ) ’n ’’Hot Air’’ (6-10 pm) , it regains some sense of sanity for late show after 10 pm ’n ’’Priya’’ is fortunate to take the crdeit for that. There r weather ’n traffic updates in between, gossiping of happenings around the city, RJ’s pulling each others leg (esp morning show), health ’n fitness, events, stock updates , interviews, dedications , dial-ins, contests etc etc etc which is sometimes more interesting than the music during the day.

One good thing with this FM is u can recycle all ur old cassettes and record some good songs ’n customise ur own collection. The final verdict is , Radio City can do a world of good by introducing more categorised music programs, but maybe its better we wait before jumping to any hasty conclusions as its still 3-4 months old ’n evoloving a lot, ’n as of now the whole city is tuned at right angles ’n quite popular.
