I use to love Radio city when it first hit the airwaves in Bangalore. It had quality programming and good RJ’s to boot. India had its first listen to what FM radio was all about. But as with anything that is mainstream Radio City has gone the populist way and reverted to an entirely Indipop-Hindi movie music genre.
Though I know this has been done keeping the steep licensing fees that they have to cough up every year, its still a very safe approach as they do not want to get into path breaking programming for fear of burning their fingers when sponsors wont be forthcoming.
My advice to radio city for whatever it counts go for a blend of the best in hindi and world music as that is what a discerning urban listener would like to tune into and what he deserves.
Ps the serials suck. Grow up people.
