This fort has lot of history in it.this fort was build in chandrarao more in 1030 then the fort was captured by shivaji in 1656 and renovated. this fort was made capital in year 1674. this is a hill fort situated in mahad, raigad district in maharashtra .this fort has 1800 steps approximately.
It was destroyed by Britishers in year 1818 but not completely it is beautiful place in rainy season as climate is cool and while trekking views are beautiful many waterfalls lies in between the trek. small stalls are there where they provide tea and snacks for trekkers on the top of the hill it is heaven fort is covered with fog whole climate remains awesome. there are many places to see on the fort such as hirkani buruj, lake, coronation place, market, gun powder storage, place, rani mahal, samadhi of shivaji and of his dear pet(dog) waghya, and many much more things.on the top there is MTDC hotel.
One of the famous place known as takmak tok is one of beautiful but dangerous place on the fort where it is not allowed to visit. if some one cannot trek. then there is rope way for such peoples. there are people near fort who gives the info of the places. must visit place
