THE RAINMAKER by John Grisham is his second novel that I have read after THE RUNAWAY JURY and his style seems to be clearly interwoven into the description of the incidents.
This Novel starts in the 1st person narrative with Rudy Baylor the protagonist , an almost broke law student and proceeds to his lawsuits. He gets two cases - one being, drafting a will and the other a lawsuit against a reputed insurance firm when hes not yet a qualified attorney. Added to this his debts and evictions. How he goes about getting his law degree and his case against the insurance firm is explained in this novel in true GRISHAM style.
The courtroom scenes in which the interrogation of the firm by Rudy Baylor are a class apart. GRISHAM has been successful in bringing out the interrogations in an enjoyable and thrilling fashion. The climax is very good and so natural for a lawyer whos heart is towards ethics.
THE RAINMAKER makes a very good read if you are able to suffice your patience during the first 200 pages where the novel is in its rudimentary process of unfolding. Once Rudy Baylor is a lawyer this is just unputtable. The climax though good could have been much more effective if JOHN GRISHAM had stressed more upon Rudys change of heart.
However if you love reading legal novels with good courtroom explanations THE RAINMAKER is a must.
