This is one of those movies that as you watch it, you can see why it became such a classic. The story is amazing, the acting by Dustin Hoffman is incredible, and you can really feel for the characters.
Tom Cruise plays Dustin Hoffmans younger brother. Dustin Hoffmans character is autistic, and Tom Cruise gets really frustrated by some of the things he does and says. But as the movie progresses, you start to see the bond between them grow.
I dont recall the first time I saw this movie, but Ive seen it about a dozen times since. I think it was my mother who suggested that I watch it, and Im glad she did. Probably the reason it became a classic is due to Dustin Hoffman. Hes an extraordinary actor and you cant help but like the character he plays from the very beginning.
The plot really holds your interest because there are humorous moments thrown into a fairly serious movie, so its really evened out. I dont especially like movies that are very depressing throughout the whole thing, and this movie wasnt like that. When you get to know the characters, you learn about the brothers past, and are left with a good, satisfied feeling about the movie. There arent any unanswered questions or anything along those lines, which sometimes occur in movies like this.
Everyone should do themselves a favor and watch this movie. I highly recommend it, because its not boring, or too long, or depressing. Its just a beautiful story with real characters played remarkably well by good actors.
