Rain phobic girl and a journalist

There are three types of movies – good, bad and watchable. Rain definitely belongs to the third type. There is nothing great about it. But if you are looking to kill some time and want some entertainment then Rain does succeed in that purpose to some extent.

First Half – 3 stars

The first half of the movie is quite exciting. Things move at a fast pace and keep the audience glued to the seat as the story unfolds with a lot of thrilling moments. Meghna Naidu is a blind woman and a renowned writer, who is asked for an interview by a journalist Himanshu Malik. The confrontation between the two is very uneasy and one can feel it in the air that something is about to give, thus making the first half quite interesting. Especially the scene just before the intermission was so unanticipated that you start expecting a nail biting 2nd half.

Second Half – 2 stars

This is where the movie is quite a let down. It was unable to meet the expectations it created in the first half and ends up becoming a usual everyday Bollywood flick. Though second half has its share of interesting moments especially during the climax but they are very few in number. Unnecessary songs hampered the pace of the movie. And especially the end of the movie is really very bizarre and seems to be hurried. This is where a director like RGV could have made it into an out and out thriller by good direction and some crisp editing.

Story

I wouldn’t like to reveal the whole story here since it’s a “so-called” suspense thriller. The whole movie is set in a house with just Meghna and Himanshu giving it a touch of “Kaun” look. Meghna is playing a blind rain-phobic girl who has faced lots of troubles in life. The film is about Meghna’s life from her childhood till the present day, which she unfolds to Himanshu, only to find something later which totally takes her aback.

Acting

Himanshu was very good. He has all the ingredients of a good actor in the making and I’m sure the critics will praise him for his performance in the movie. He has the versatility.

Meghna overacted a lot and was quite irritating at times. This is where an actress like Mallika Sherawat could have raised the acting levels to a new height. Mallika could have been well suited for the role since Meghna didn’t do justice to it.

Skin Show

Skin show was there to an extent. Meghna showed a lot of cleavage and the camera angels would move to her bosom at least once in every 5 minutes, much to the delight of front benchers. There was also a smooch scene and a love-making scene between the couple.

Music

Music was average, nothing much to write home about. Though the title song was picturized quite well.

Overall Rating - 2.5 stars

All in all Rain is not a must see movie. Watch it if you have nothing better to do and be prepared for its share of flaws!
