Rama Nayak- The Feast for The Common Man

I was pretty bored and lazy today when I got up but I went to the temple and had my breakfast at 7 AM at Annapoorna Hotel which is next to Garnish, its a good place which serves a typical lunch with limited food. Anyways onto the review, I got hungry at 11:10 AM and well I decided that the best meal out there in Matunga where I live was at Rama Nayak Udipi, I reached there and climbed the stairs to the venue and I was happy that there were no que’s at that time, it was 11:15 AM, I went to the counter and I bought a token for an unlimited meal. I took my token and sat at one of the seat, thankfully for me the rush had not started for the meals.

I opened the plaintain leaf and sprinkled water on it and cleaned it as per the tradition of a typical South Indian person, I was asked if I would rather have a thali but I wished to eat on the leaf. so hence I was waiting for the food to be served, in just a second every dish was on my leaf and I was ready to go, the chapati’s were being made right then and there in the kitchen of which I had a view to, they came and served me 2 piping hot chapati’s, the chapati’s were so tasty to eat cos of it being made right then that I had 2 more chapati’s and the serving ppl kept asking me if I wanted any more chapati’s and I said no.

After having my fill of chapatis, I told them that I wanted rice. They brought the rice and it was hot and wholesome, i don’t know how they get such soft rice but its good to have that. First I had dal and rice which is one of my favourites, then I asked for rasam as I had heard that rasam was the best there. I didn’t eat sambhar today cos I didnt feel like it. They had a beetroot curry, a onion bhaji with some peas and one another dish which I couldnt make out. It was like a divine thing for me, its been like 7-8 years since I had last stepped into this place and needless to say, nothing has changed, everything is spick and span as it always was. Then after rasam, i had the curd rice and this was the time that I was full and yet I managed to eat curd rice as well.

I was asked which dessert I would like and since I like gulab jamuns the most, i went with that as dessert. It was really good and heavenly and after I had finished my whole meal, iwas full and it felt like that I couldn’t walk but thankfully and god-willing I reached home at 11:45 which was due to me walking slowly due to the full meal I had. While I was coming out after my lunch, i saw that almost 10 ppl had reached there for lunch and they were waiting and in that time they were reading newspapers.

Truly a divine and heavenly experience.
