My trusty companion, the Times Food Guide had spoken favourably about this place, that serves good vegetarian food, on Cunningham road, and I made up my mind, to visit it, whenever I happened to be in the area. After watching the morning show of "What`s your Rashee?", at fun cinemas. which runs for 3.5 hours, our group of 5 was ravenous, and looked to me, the Food dude for inspiration, and voila! Ramana`s it was.
The minute we entered, I fell in love with the ambience. The decor was simplistic, and pleasing on the eye. The wooden steps that lead to the top floor, make you feel like you are in some Ashram. The place is not very huge, so, it might be good to make your reservations in advance, if you come here on weekends.
Our order, after it was placed. was served in around 15 minutes. The Phulkas, were great, melt-in-your mouth stuff, and if you are counting calories, won`t leave you with an astronomical figure to contend with. The Kulchas, were soft and not too taxing on your molars, unlike the ones, in some of the other places, I have been to. The Hara Bhara Kabab was really good. Grilled to perfection, the stuffing was perfectly done. The winner for me, was the Methi Malai Mutter.
My mouth`s watering even as I write this. The tastes of the individual components that make up this dish, came through perfectly, and the slightly tangy taste, left us craving for more. We ended up ordering another plate of the same. The Paneer Mushroom Masala, which we ordered was quite average, which again is a relative comparison, against the Methi Malai Mutter, not against the same dish in other restaurants. The meal, left us feeling contented, rather than heavy, which is what I normally feel, after dining at some of the other eat-outs.
Our bill, for a hugely satisfying meal, which got a thumbs-up, from all 5, came up to Rs.160/- head which according to me, is a fair amount, considering the location. So, next time, you are in the area with family and friends, do drop in. I am sure, you`ll walk out like us, with a halo around your tummy. happy eating!
