Hrishikesh Mukherjee was on a high when this movie was made.He made it fresh after the success of GolMaal.I suppose everyone will agree that GolMaal was a superb comedy.This flick attempts to cover the same ground of the former movie and it almost succeeds.
It does not have a superlative star cast but all of them have delivered the goods in plenty.We have Amol Palekar as the timid husband who is married to Parveen Babi. He has a flourishing business of his own and his life is a boring routine.But his wife realises that he is a good man and going out and enjoying himself is just not his cup of tea.He has a secretary(Deepti Naval)who has a boyfriend(Farooque Shaikh).Now this boyfriend is mildly suspicious of the boss, who does not strike him as right.
Into all this comes a friend of Amol(Deven Verma).He sees the boring routine of his friend’s life and tells him that there is no harm in flirting with his comely secretary.He keeps on goading him.Then one day he asks the secretary to go out with him on a date and wins her sympathy telling her that he is married to a physically handicapped woman.She swallows the whole story.And later she finds out the truth.
Then the fun begins.It is all out fun.It has got gentle humor throughout.Everyone has given a splendid performance.Utpal Dutt as the harassed secretary’s eccentric Uncle is hilarious.So is Om Prakash.This is a gem of a movie.You will not find such flicks nowadays.If you get to see it on cable, do not miss it.Or go and rent it if you still have a video with you.But see it you must.Whole heartedly recommended.
