RDB...A must see

Saw Rang De Basanthi last week...and I must say that its no ordinary movie. The film-maker had one theme going for the whoole movie, which was the best part. What puts this movie apart from others is that the script writer hasn’t deviated from this main theme...every scene and every dialogue reflects this theme. Morover, it will be difficult to call it an Aamir Khan movie; I feel each character had their own well defined roles, and I must say those roles were played to perfection. Soha Ali Khan is a refreshing addition...I think the infusion of her energy is another vital reason for the film’s success. Atul Kulkarni gave a strong performance...I feel his ’sarfaroshi’ recital would have invoked true feeling and patriotism is every Indian.

But then...every coin has two sides!! The ending was a bit too dramatic...and I feel the glorification of violence in some scenes was a bit over the top. But then again, violence had to be the central theme especially when the characters were modelled after revolutionary freedom fighters.

All in all, though the film had its cons, I feel this movie has a strong message for every Indian in general, and for the Indian youth in particular. It highlights the fact that even in this competitive world, where everyone is preoccupied in career bulding, there can be a place for patriotism. But this modern patriotism is of a different kind- to free India from corruption and bureucracy. The central message is to awaken the youth to these evils, and to empower them to take on these problems head on. What we need is an infusion of youth and freshness of new ideas in Indian polity, and unless we see that happening, we cannot expect the nation to move forward.
