What makes a movie with mindblowing entertainment , superb subject , extraordinary diamond like performances and most importantly finest direction and excellent script - Rang De Basanti has all of it .
Base -
The movie kicks off with the revolutionaries being sentenced to death these were Siddarth , Atul Kulkarni , Kunal Kapoor being hanged . The movie is about a Allice a british girl whose grandfather was the general when Bhagat Singh and his fellow revoltunaries were about to hang , he saw the concern and the hunger of freedom in the eyes of a young 23 year old person , Allice wants to make a movie on it but the production house declines the concept as acc. to them it is less appealing and tells Allice to make Movies on Robin hood or William Wallace . Sad Allice comes to India to freind Soha Ali Khan who is a freind of hers , then starts the audition for the roles of the freedom fighters ( this was really funny ) .
Finally she selects the crew of the Rang de basanti as the crew of her documentary film ’’ The young heavy guns of India ’’ . Well there are problems in the crew as the secular Atul Kulkarni is against the muslim Kunal Kapoor .
Aamir plays a graduate who has graduated 5 years years ago but still hangs around the college campus as he has the only respect he doesn’t know his aim , Siddarth a person who hates the country has serious nature wants to go to abroad for graduation acc. to him India sucks . Maddy has a guest appearance plays a air force pilot who loves the country like any other army officer . Kunal Kapoor plays a muslim whose family is against his beliefs of being Mordern . Om puri plays his dad .
Atul Kulkarni plays a secualar person who is against muslims , he tries and does many things for his political party . Soha ali khan plays a happy simple girl who gets engaged to Maddy , Sharaman Joshi plays the same type of character that Aamir plays plus he is more stupid and comic in the movie .
In the first half the movie is a dil chahta hai kind of movie it has its light heart jokes with Punjabi dialogues making it more fresh and appealing . ’’Behen ke takke’’
is the most common dialogue in the movie . In the second half the pace of the movie slows down and the movie becomes serious as Maddy dies in an air crash and the defence minister calls maddy an immatured pilot . Then the rebel starts and is often compared what Bhagat singh , Chandrashekhar Azad , Ram Prasad Bismil , Raj Guru , Sukhdev did to make India a better place to live . It has its won flashback moments .
Performances -
Aamir Khan - Again another dil chahta hai type performance in the first half and the intense Sarfrosh kind of performance in the second half . Another feather to his hat of well decorated performances
Siddarth - Brilliant performace he potrayes his charecter beautifully from the beginning till the end . He is matchable to Aamir in this movie .
Soha Ali Khan - She plays the best charecter till she has played and delivers the best performance in her filmography till date .
Sharman Joshi - His acting talents were excellent but now they are getting better and better , his movies like shaadi no.1 Style 1 , 2 were forgetteble but now he hits the bull’s eye .
Kunal Kapoor - He potrays his character good , he is kinda artist in the movie and plays his part good but not as appealing as Aamir .
Atul Kulkarni - He gives a knockout performance in this movie like he gives in all the other movies .
After a long time this is the best multicast performance and everyone pour their heart out this time not only Aamir is the show stealer but the entire crew are thew show stealers .
Music -
Fantastic music songs like Rang De Basanti , Paathshala , Roobaru , Khalbali rock hard . Fantastic efforts by AR Rehmaan as compered to Mangal Pandey .
Overall
This movie hell really appeals to the youth as it contains rock music as an excellent background and tremendous scenes which actually makes it more appealling then all the Bhagat Singh movies .
If you see Rang de Basanti as a concept it is a cross between the seriousness of The Bhagat Singh movies and the light hearted jokes and comedy of Dil Chahta hai and most importantly Rang De Basanti is much more classified and better than these 2 movies .
