Rang De Basanti

On this occasion of Independence Day I am reviewing one of my favorite Movie “Rang De Basanti” (2006) directed by Mr. Rakesh Omparkash Mehra. I am dedicating this review to every Indian.

Plot:- “Rang De Basanti” is all about the situation of India before freedom & after freedom.

This movie is based on two plots…First plot is based on a Friend circle DJ(Aamir Khan), Karan(Siddharth), Sukhi(Sharman Joshi), Aslam(Kunal Kapoor) & Sonia(Soha Ali Khan) who are carefree about their lives, about their system of society & Second plot is based on the lives of our Krantiveers Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, Sukhdev, Ashfak Ullah Khan, Lala Lajpat Rai, Ram Prasad Bismil, Chander Shekhar Azad & Durga Bhabhi. Both plots are very well connected & similar to each other. It’s all about the past & present situation of our country.

Starcast:- Aamir Khan as DJ, Siddharth as Karan, Sharman Joshi as Sukhi, Atul Kulkarni as Laxman Pandey, Kunal Kapoor as Aslam, R Madhwan as Ajay Rathore, Soha Ali Khan as Sonia, Waheeda Rahman as Ajay’s mother, Kiran Kher as DJ’s mother, Anupam Kher as Karan’s Father & as a corrupt Leader & Alice Patten as Sue.

Storyline:- The story of this movie is based on the political situation & on corruption in our country.

DJ, Karan, Sukhi, Aslam, & Sonia are five Friends who completed their graduation 5 years back but still they lives in Delhi University because they hesitate to get out in this real world. They were very careless about anything. What they want every time is just fun.

Ajay Rathor is a Flight Lieutenant & he is in love with Sonia.

Sue is a filmmaker in UK & she wants to make a film on Indian Revolutionaries. So she comes to India to complete her Dream. Here she comes in contact with those 4 Friends with the help of Soha Ali Khan & wants to act with them in her film. But she feels disappointment because no one of them shows interest in her film. But at last when they agree to do acting in her film, slowly they begin to feel that their own lives are not very different from the characters they play in her film. And during this they got the biggest shock of their life when they came to know that Ajay Rathor is no more & he is died when his fighter crashes. His sudden death completely changes the circumstances & situation in their lives. But the Government said that the plain crashes due to the error of pilot and closes the investigation knowing Ajay is a very good pilot. This incident changes their lives forever & now they feel like they are also revolutionaries. And they act like fighters for their Friend Ajay Rathor. Now they can feel the passion & anger in their inner soul for their Friend. They killed the ministers who were responsible for the death of Ajay & who were corrupt in order to take the revenge of their Friend’s death. End of the movie is so emotional that you will surely find tears in your eyes.

Performances:- Aamir Khan as DJ is as usual fantastic. He fully justifies his role as a college student. But we can’t ignore the performances of another gems in the movie. Siddharth as Karan is very serious & fabulous in his role. Kunal Kapoor as Aslam is quite natural in his role. R Madhwan as Ajay Rathore is very likeable. Waheeda Rahman is as always very charming. Kiran Kher is again an exceptional. Sharman Joshi as Sukhi is very powerful. Soha Ali Khan as Sonia & Durga Bhabhi is looking very revolutionary. And Alice Patten as Sue is just brilliant in her role.

Music:- Music by AR Rahman is quite impressive of this movie.

Masti ki Pathshaala & Khalbali songs are full of fun & masti. Khoon Chala is a song, which will touch your Heart for sure. Luka Chupi is very emotional & touchy song sung by Lata ji & AR Rahman. It has the feeling of relationship between Son & Mother. Tu Bin Btaye is a romantic track & very melodious song. Rubaroo is a song with lots of deep meanings in it.

Every single track is just too good.

Verdict:-

In short it’s a movie related to all Indians. It’s not for only you & me. It’s all about US. This movie shows that although we got freedom before 65 years yet in reality still we are not free. There is a fighter in between all of us & we all have to fight against corruption with the spirit of that Fighter.

It’s a must watch movie for everybody.

Happy Independence Day to all of you.
