The first time I listened to it, I didn’t exactly like it very much. But what impressed me was the amount of freshness pumped into the album. The music sounds more appealing than the la-ira-ila ad of Liril (pls don take it as any kinda sarcasm on the Album).
Being a die-hard fan of Rehman and Amir, I was not ready to discard the album and look for a new one. So I tried it for the second time, and I got the pulse of the album and yes I started liking it. By the time, I listened it for third time, I had realized what a gem of a performance Rehman had pulled off.
That Rehman is a musical genius, is a truth established years ago but what surprised me was the lyrics, penned by an ad man and I belive a good friend of Amir (after that Thanda Matlab Coca Cola ad campaign), Prasoon Joshi. I thought what’s most appealing about the album is its simple yet-so-hitting https://lyrics. Hats of to the guy (prasoon) who wrote those pinching, prodding and yet so inspiring songs for the album. It seems that ad world’s loss (god forbid that happens) will ultimately be music world’s gain (But honestly I want bit of both the world from this guy cos he is really superb).
Now talking about Rehman, I must say this guy is not just talented with a fine musical brain but he has also a big musical heart or how else can one strum out those ground breaking music so consistently. This guy is never afraid of experimenting with music, sounds, voices and noises alike. And thanks to his musical instinct, he gave so many new faces and voices to the music world. This particular album also features some new not so well-known voices. May be that’s the another reason for Rehman being the ‘Liril’ of FMCG (Fresh Music Creating Group) sector.
LETS DISCUSS THE SONGS NOW:
SIDE A
ONKAR has a soothing devotional song. As a rule, good things always begin with the name of god. It’s short, slow paced ‘prelude’ to an amazing piece of work.
RANG DE BASANTI treats u with a pinch of youth energy and a shower of patriotism good enough blend to thrill u to the core and fill u with all the positive energy. Daler Mehndi is back with a bang (but not with his signature Punjabi songs. Hindi songs suits his voice as well as the Punjabi words). The words of the songs are simple and titillates your senses. Sample it: Dhawkniyon si Dhak-Dhak karti sanse and Khooshbu se bawrayee mast Pawan. Coooooooooool!
PATHSALA song is a mix of rock, hip-hop and pop. It inspires u to Be A Rebel and have fun. The song is not poetry at its puritan best but it gives u kick. That’s what matters most. Isn’t it?
KHALBALI has that mystical and Sufi touch. Lyrics indeed are good. So is the voice. It FLUTTERS your soul and heart.
SIDE B
KHOON CHALA has this Mohit karne wala jadoo . It’s enchanting, enticing, inspiring, motivating and haunting effect. Mohit Chauhan, after his Dooba Dooba act, had really made us bleed with passion and conviction.
LUKA CHHUPI is a semi-classical number with the ever so classic voice of Lata Mangeskar. Rehman had the best music for the best singer in the world. Nothing’s like it. It will enthrall all and sundry even the most finicky one’s. I bet!
LALKAR is not exactly a song and rather it’s a poem recited by Amir Khan. It has few of those immortal lines from the song Sar Faroshi Ki Tamanna that had triggered the biggest wave of patriotic feelings ever in the history of mankind. With Amir’s deep and heavy voice, the song makes u throw all the fetters and kick u do go out and do SOMETHING. It indeed is a LALKAR.
RUBROO ROSHNI is my favourite from one of my favourite album. The song portrays the ecstasy of an unshackled body and soul. The guitar dominates the proceeding giving the song a youthful touch that sends u vibrating in the most rhythmic way with positive energy waves hitting the troughs.
The album is a treat to the ears, heart and soul. Rush to the nearest musical store and buy it. It indeed is a must buy and must listen. Hurry up! You can’t afford to miss it for long.
