I was planning to write the review a couple of days earlier, but then the review would have been unfair to both Rahman and Prasoon Joshi. I have just started to fully enjoy the songs and the https://lyrics.Prasoon is a talent to look out for in Film https://lyrics.
Normally in the movies of Rahman whenever it is not Gulzar or Javed Akhtar the lyrics are BAD. But then we have a freshness to the lyrics along with the music.
Friends the music of Rang De Basanti is pathbreaking and it is in the mould of Yuva and Boys( Rahmans Tamil Flick).
The soundtrack starts with a prayer( IK OMKAAR) in Punjabi.
The title song by Daler is the only let down I felt.
The Song PAATSHAALA is a real peppy number and is bound to do well on the charts. It is on the lines of Tamil flicks composed in Tamil and English by rahman. But this is new to Hindi cinema. Sounds a bit loud on first time listening but then the rhythm is gonna get everyone.
TU BIN BATAYE is a real classic in the lines of some old Lata and Asha songs. Madhushree has done a great job and we hope to hear more of her in the future.
Naresh Iyer is the other singer in this song and this TamBrahm is the guy to look out for in the future. He is a mix of Sonu and Rafi.
KHALBALI is a brilliant composition and it is still hitting my head every now and then. The arabic lyrics combined with Hindi and the way it is sung by rahman makes it a very very dance number. Poised to take over the Discos of Mumbai.
KHOON CHALA is a very slow number but sung beautifully by Mohit Chauhan ( Silk Route). I just amazed by the tunes Rahman composes. In fact the tunes and arrangements of TU BIN BATAYE and KHOON CHALA are so confusing that my thought process just stops. how can any one even think of these tunes. Kudos to Rakesh Mehra for selecting the songs for the movie.
LUKA CHUPPI is a mother son song which has the power to bring tears in ones eyes. Here also equal credit should go to Prasoon. The opening instrumentation is similar to VELLAI POOKAL ( from Manis Film Kannathil Muthamittal). Lata Mangeshkar and Rahman has sung this song with a great passion. It is like a Mother and Son Singing.
LALKAAR is a poem in prose narrated by Aamir Khan. Similar to the one narrated by Arvind Swamy for the Mani Ratnam Film IRUVAR. But then Aamir has done a good job in showing restraint in the narration. May be in the movie we can understand more.
ROOBARO is a average song of the album but better than teh average HINDI FILM song. Rahman and Naresh Iyer has come together for this song. Only thing is Rahman needs to improve his Hindi diction. After hearing the music so many times and watching the movie I need to give this song the best rating. It is a song with very strange notations. BUt it has become an anthem.Great composition. Cult song with the feel of enlightenment.
Overall I feel the album is a great composition with all newcomers in the lead.Great Job by Rahman and Rakesh Mehra needs to be complimented for his great Music sense. Even Aks had real good music.
Guys JUST buy this album it is really worth more than Rs 160.
