Rationmart is not replacement to mall trips

Rationmart is your average kirana store guy you put up with because he has monopoly in your area and you really have no choice about it unless you want to drive away to some mall few kms away to get what you need. Only in this case, it’s an online portal.

Rationmart does the job if you really need something at home, specially if you can’t go outside by yourself but no way it is replacement to you going to market yourself and choosing products you need.

Here are some reasons why

  • most of the products listed are not updated stock wise, they’ll take the order but deliver half of it because there was no stock

  • They will put an item in invoice and charge for it, but won’t deliver it. ALWAYS check all the items before making payment or you might end up paying for something you didn’t get.

  • they’ll deliver substitutes of your product without checking with you. Be very upfront about it and refuse to take delivery of anything you didn’t order. Never pay by card, pay COD to ensure you can adjust the bill and payment according to what you took.

  • Quality maintenance is an issue. More than once I was delivered food packets that were torn from places and had mold growing inside.

  • The 24hrs shipping rule is bent as per their convenience, don’t hold your breath over it. It may take as long as 5 days to get your order.

  • Working hours policy - I had people come to my house at 10:30pm to deliver the order! That is not acceptable at all. If you are a single woman placing order, be very strict about the timing that is acceptable to you.

  • The site is a pain to navigate through. Most of filters either don’t exist or don’t work properly. I selected vegetarian category and still had chicken products displaying. It makes one really wary to place order, because the product pictures uploaded are also too small to find out the green dot - mark of veg food on it.

All in all, it’s a half-hearted poorly executed attempt to bring the grocery market online. While the concept is nice and much needed in today’s lifestyle, there are a lot of areas rationmart needs to improve on before it can boast of becoming a site worthy of widespread customer base.

Still, the site is functional and can be made use of when you’re in need.
