Star of the televised cricket

Ravi Shastri started his career when he was only 18 years old against the Kiwis in the 1st test at Wellington in 1980-81. He has played 80 test matches and made 3830 run . He made 11 hundreds and 12 fifties in his test career. His highest run in test cricket is 206.

He has bagged 151 wickets in his test career. As a left arm spinner he was part of the Indian Bowling attack.

In one day international he has scored 3108 run and bagged 129 wickets.

But rather prematurely Ravi Shastri ended his career after getting knee injury .Perhaps that time he was playing his best cricket in Australia .The injury kept him out of the games for eight months. Injury can not detach him from cricket. This former all-rounder has been working for television since 1994 as freelance. He is roaming all over the world to cover the match.

Ravi Shastri played with limited stroke and his most of the run came from his pushes. But we can not deny his tenacious attitude with bat while he was in the crease. He was slow but he had consistency.

He served Indian Cricket in many ways.. He took the responsibility to defend the attack with new ball as opener and in critical moment in middle order he took the responsibility on his shoulder to resist the landslide. He lead the Indian with his shrewd strategy. He was really a utility cricketer in one day matches. He got the champion of the champions title with Audi Car in 1985 at Australia .

The touched the magic feat equaling Gary Sober’s record hitting six sixes in an over in 1985 in Ranji Trophy match.

I will never rate him as a talented cricketer. He was certainly a potential cricketer and deep thinker of the game. He did lot for the Indian Cricket.

He is still popular as cricketer with the microphone to the cricket loving people who are in front of small box. Now we are watching televised cricket., watching every corner of the gallery. Former cricket stars are now commentators and we watch what is happening in the field and around the field. We hear analysis of the match and condition of pitch from these experienced commentator. Ravi Shastri is among those experts and Star of The Televised cricket.
