What i look for in a review

A review on mouthshut is not a mere collection of technological, geeky terminology . it is something more . it has a personal favour attached to it . I read a lot of reviews . and try to comment of most of them . so in this article I am giving a checklist I feel can be helpful for writing a review .

*DO’S*

  1. A review must be informative . but it has to be presented in a more personal basis . your thoughts are very important part of the review. Thats why mouthshut is different isn’t it? So I look for a review with a personal flavour . but too much of personal points on some topic can make a reader get bored or lose touch of the topic. so the right balance is to be maintained.

  2. Technical Information . Some reviews require a technical description . and also I think an article must be so formed that the person reading it should not be searching another site for all the technical information. but again I point out . the person is reading your review because He/she thinks you have used the product . so mingle the tech info with your personal experience if you can.

  3. Sense of humor . it is a good thing to have . but it has to be used at the right places . save it for lighter topics.

  4. Proper formatting . dividing the review into sections and making the sections distinct help the reader . and it is a good habit to get organized.

5.While reading a review I think the prime area which sets the tone is the starting . so I feel that the start should be captivating . but I don’t preach for always starting out with cinematic dialogues . even an honest line does good . but try to make it different . or as much informative as one can .

*DO NOT’S

  1. Copy and paste . please . sincerely this is a very common thing I found in mostly novice members . they copy and paste the reviews from another site . this is comparable to a sin . I have read numerous reviews which were lifted word by word from the IMDB website.  hey people what happened to the imagination and creativity we are all blessed with? Imagine this . I live in a hostel . with net connection which sometimes crawls . if not moving at all . and I wait an eternity for an article to open . and when I see the all so familiar words . I am caught in this dilemma whether to kill myself or find the author and kill him/her.

  2. Use of slangs and unfamiliar abbreviations.

  3. Turn off is when the author creates interest in the topic and leaves many questions unanswered . I feel that the topic should be well researched and put forward with view of answering all the primary questions that can be put forward . If you have details like . cost . and remedies for the problem you faced . then please include them in the article rather than posting it as a comment after someone has asked you .

I guess this is about it . thats all I have to say for now . though some may think my article is out of place . but I think it is relevant .  comments and suggestions welcome
