Sept 11 2001, I was getting ready for my night shift say about 7.45pm, or must have been 8.00 (Indian Standard Time). As usual I was surfing the channels and sudedenly stopped on CNN, which said Breaking News: America Under Attack. My first impression was an Iraqi attack and I waited to hear the news fully.(America under attack meant no work at office cuz we called American clients). But to my horror they showed the first clipping, ie a Plane bustling into a WTC building. At first I couldnt beleive my eyes and it seemed a sence staraightly picked up from a Hollywood movie. But it was true and I watched in horror. Moments later they showed another one crashing into the second WTC tower and simultaneosly another clippng of Pentagon and I guess in Pensylvania. And I heard someone screaming in me America attacked? The superpower America attacked? I moved to work and as expected there was no work, all were glued to our office Tv in the recreation room and our American trainer and his wife with litreally tears in their eyes. I cursed myself for being a bit excited at the thought of no work and was ashamed at myself. After all, Human life is precious, be it in America or India. Days passed, atatcks on Afghanistan followed, the Taliban were ousted after a long series of Air raids and ground attacks from Northern Alliance, but the man behind everything was missing. Osama Bin Laden was still at large. It was a tragic incident and needs to condemmed. It was an incident that left a stigma in the Psyics of every American, and America started feeling something they had never experienced in practical terms, the word FEAR. Some people who didnt even know when was the American Independence day, started taking active intrest in what was going on outside America, something they call it the rest of the world nowwadays. As a writer put it 9/11 introduced many Americans to the world that existed outside America. But then as Rajiv Gandhi once said, when a big tree falls, the earth beneath it ripples. Some unfortunate hate crimes followed with innocent people being targetted. The world economy fell from its previous level of what it was till the....... worst Having said this, I dont want to sound an Anti-American , cuz Im not one. My personal feeling is that America should be more sensitive to human lives, which are lost not only in America, but all over the world. They attacked Afghanistan in which many innocent lives were also lost, but when it came to some other country taking an aggresive stand on its security policies, America asked them to show reatraint. Why this discrimination? Are human lives not precious elsewhere? The readers from the Indian subcontinent will definately make out what I am referring to. A human life is precious everwhere. Today on the 1st Anniversary, the memories of the tragic day are back, though for some they were never gone. The culprit is still at large. The world has formed coalation to end terrorism, hope it doesnt end after the American purpose is acheived. The WTC may be resurrected someday, Osama Bin Laden may be caught someday, but this day has left an incredible black mark in the pshyics of Americans which will be back to haunt them on every 9/11. This was the day which taught us a lesson, that the strongest of superpowers are also humans and when the evil strikes, it makes no distinction. The best thing to do today would be to pray for the ones who lost their lives and hope this tragedy doesnt occur anywhere else in the world ever again.
As spookay ends it , Peace & Happiness.....always ........
