It is hard to find good places to eat. Being a Bangalorean for the most part of my life, I can vouch that there is no derth for good places to eat out in this city. My visits to other cities in the country have always been very disappointing in terms of food....either the place is too pricey and the food is moderate or the place is too cheap the the food is crappy.
With the exception of Calcutta, I would say Bangalore is one of the best places in India for all food types of all budgets and tastes. Here is a review on one of my favorite restaurants in the city.
The Place
The restaurant is a part of the Museum Inn on Museum Road, off Church Street. I would think its hard to miss this place owing to its proximity to MG Road, Brigade Road and Church Street. Another landmark is the hotels pub the Tavern.
The Ambience
Well, its like any other upscale restaurant in the city....meaning its very cosy and not too noisy with limited seating. The waiting area is thankfully outside in the lounge so you dont see the people glaring at you to get up and leave so they can eat. I am not commenting on the decor, cause I never notice it(Its a place to eat not sleep...duh!)
Starters and drinks
Most cocktails and mocktails are from the Tavern. Till date none of my drinks were messed up. Do try the mango smoothie if you like mangoes. Its truly amazing. Being a veggie, I can only comment on the vegetarian food, of which thankfully most restaurants in Bangalore have a wide variety. My most recent visit comprised of an order of crispy fried corn.Yummy. Never have tasted anything so unique and delicious with the right amount of crispiness and spice and no oily taste at all.
Main course
Well the main course is as good as the rest of the menu. Very delicious. The quantity may not be very good for hearty eaters, so if you are in big groups, you will need to order a lot. Both the thai and Chinese food is very very yummy
Dessert
No idea cause I am always too full to get to this part of the menu. I always end up taking a doggy bag home.(Who in their right minds would think of wasting such good food!!)
The price
Hmm....this may not be easily digestible to some people. The restaurant is pricey. For two people with healthy appetites I would say on an average the meal would cost about Rs. 500-600. This is without dessert and not more than one drink. Soup and salad too may cost more
Overall, I would highly recommend this place. The food is just too good to be missed. Give it a try. I am sure you will like it :-)
