Red Box Cafe is a nice place to have a semi-formal and casual lunch / dinner with a big group of friends or even an intimate evening. Or just go out for a drink and chill out.
Great ambience(the hanging crystal balls look damn cool), food is very good too(can only confidently say about veg) and good quantity for the price. Do not miss the desserts at the bakery that I forget the name of.
All this only if you know the art of ignoring LOUD music and screaming to have a conversation. Now, Ive been to pubs and discs plenty, but Red Box takes the cake, the baker and the bakery when it comes to loudness. The music is so loud, in fact, that even the waiters cannot get the orders right! Like I went there with a few friends for dinner.
Friend: can I have some chili sauce?
Waiter(straining his ears to hear): NO, we dont serve Chinese.
Friend: No, I said chili sauce
Waiter gets a bowl of tomato sauce.
Friend: I meant Tobasco
Waiter: Yeah, this is tomato
Friend: Tobasco, Tobasco!
Waiter gets a bottle of tomato ketchup!
Oh, and the DJ. Dude, he really needs to know that them faders on the console dont have to be shuttled for each and every song, that too indiscriminately! It really sounded like the CD was skipping. And, no, a DJ doesnt disappear from the console leaving a 30 secs silence between two songs. And you dont repeat a song within 10 minutes.
And I really wonder if the customers comfort is more important of if there is a policy to screw everyones ears, even if people ask for the volume to be brought down just a bit.
So, learn sign language if you want to go there. Or maybe they should keep a mic and speakers on every table because sitting on the same table, we couldnt hear what the other person was saying! And I got my hot water and brandy without honey because obviously the waiter couldnt hear what I was saying.
And the waiters, they disappear sometimes. whoosh! right into thin air, especially if you ask them to get water.
