Wonderful OS

I had done project in LINUX. It was a project where we(group of 3) had to provide authentication for users in a LAN network through a proxy server. So we had written a script for the Linux proxy server- Squid using PERL language providing authentication.

So at that time, I had to study whole of LInux and had to install Linux on my PC. ANd within few days I had got addicted to Linux and had both windows and Linux on my system.

The best thing that I liked about Linux that

  1. It was a complete multi tasking system which does provide.

  2. It was the best and the fastest OS.

  3. It provided full security within PC as well as within a LAN network. here I’m not saying that windows doesn’t provide but windows 9X doesnt provide for sure. And if u want it in them. You again need softwares which are un-neccesary waste of space on ur system which is not the case in Linux.

  4. It is the only fully configurable OS which can be customized to the core which is not at all possible in windows as you dont have the source code open.

  5. AND MOST OF ALL I NEED TO SAY HERE THAT IT recoginzes all the hardwares connected to ur system and not as in windows where you have to manually install all the things I mean to say the display drivers, sound card, modem, printer, LAN card, and many more. LINUX - no need of having any cd except the installation CD.

  6. THE MOST IMPORTANT - It comes for free and not like windows where u have to buy it.

  7. Also many other things that u dont need need to install any players or support softwares like what u install in windows for eg. winamp (in linux there is XMMS or something of that sort) there are around 15-20 different players available for playing songs as well as movies.

  8. MIcrosoft OFfice which the whole world uses is already there in Linux inbuilt.

  9. Installation can also be done over a network, meaning you can install Linux in any number of PC’s over a LAN network (tell me can you do it in Windows) I know this point as I had done this in my project in a LAN network.

  10. Linux there are many versions available eg. Linux Redhat, Mandrake Linux, etc. I had used both Mandrake 9 as well as Redhat 8.0.

  11. Linux is so developer friendly that you have the whole source code available to develop a new version for yourself. You can do this by joining any number of groups which are available on the internet.

  12. There are more sites on Linux than Windows which even we don’t know.

  13. You also have Messengers for Linux as well as multiple browsers for Linux ...so don’t worry if you are an internet freak.
