I have been using rediffmail pro /mobile for almost a year now. My experience with it has been less than satisfactory.
Here are the important issues that I have faced with rediffmail pro.
1) Very poor Spam filter.
Rediffmail probably has one of the worst spam filters installed that I have come across. Most of the time, important mails that are from business clients or friends land up in its Bulk mail folder, while those mails that are definitely junk almost certainly land in the inbox !
It has blocking facility for email address. We all know that no spammer uses the same email address twice, so how am I supposed to block emails from spammers using this ? (as suggested by their tech support !)
They also advised me to accept mails only from people in my inbox... if I do that, no new person can email me, and I would have to continously check the bulk mail folder to ensure that no legitimate mail has gone into it.
2) Very large time lag before reciving an email.
No matter where I send the email from, hotmail/yahoo/corporate account, it takes almost 30 to 45 minutes for the mail to appear in my inbox. This is very very long period of time for an email to appear. Emails appear within a minute on hotmail.
3) Pathetic tech support.
As with many other providers I guess, even rediff tech support is not really techie.
They keep giving me the same stupid answers to my questions.
4) Strange problem with outlook.
I am not sure where the problem lies in this case, but when I use outlook to send email (SMTP), very frequently authentication fails. Not only does the authentication fail, but my emails land up as ’system admin failure’ from rediff, and I have to resend every mail again. This is so frustrating that I can’t begin to express.
So overall, I don’t think rediffmail is really ready for professional mailing. I will not be renewing my account with them.
