This is the first and probably the only movie I saw .... only because I had heard the music and I loved it. My observation of hindi movies tells me that ... people generally love the song only after they have seen the movie... but in this case I followed it the other way around!
Well I have seen that the movie has received many very well written reviews .... but having watched this movie so many times... I feel obliged to write this one. Well so what to expect from my review? I wont be going over the plot and performances in detail. Rather I will list the positive side of the movie and describe the negatives as well, which I can say are imprinted in my brain after seeing this movie 18 times in the cinema hall .. dishing out 104 rupees every time( Yeah I know I know ... you must be wondering why ... only explanation I can give now is ... that I had lost my mind!)
The movie is cluttered with comic scenes... The movie starts with a college scene .. which I think was of the right length ... Thank God it was not prolongated. Well to speak the truth the only thing worth watching in the movie is in the middle... that is half an hour from the start and half an hour from the end.
When our protagonist Maddy sees Our heroine Reena in a wedding at Delhi ... that sequence is good. Also to watch out for in the movie is Vrijesh Hirji ... I only pray that I got the name correctly ... he plays a good role as a comic side kick. The ESP of the movie is its background track and the songs. They are very good to listen to .... Zaraa Zaraa .... sach keh raha he deewana ... are my fave of the lot. Saif Ali Khan looks great .. but one person looks very sweet is Dia Mirza ... She is HOT. She looks very lovely in the movie.
The negatives of the movie.
Direction I felt was third grade. Editing even worse. Camera effects ... dont even talk about it.
In some scenes you could see the character waiting to play his role or deliver his dialogues. Like during the wedding scene in Delhi, when maddy is practising how to introduce himself, he turns and faces his friend, who entered maybe 10 frames earlier and was standing like a dumb puppet waiting to deliver his lines. The songs are great... some are shot at amazing places ... but the side dancers ... gosh ... if the producer was running out of funds ... he could have borrowed some more ... or maybe half way through the movie he felt it is going to flop did he pull out the funds ? I will keep on pondering on that. The extras seem like borrowed from a local Nautanki. Madhavans wardrobe is like what you can see any abnormal person wear. The colour of the shirts dont suit him ... he looks more like a hastily dressed Phantom ( the comic character) when he is wearing that Indigo colour shirt of his...
Movie has lots of discontinuities ... and story is out and out unbelievable. Still I would recommend that one should watch this movie at least once .... the comedy and songs wont disappoint you
