Reliance Wireless Broadband for SMEs

We exhausted nearly all the Internet connection providers in Chennai

for our office - Airtel, BSNL, again Airtel, and now, Reliance. After going through

the plans at

https://reliancecommunications.co.in/Communications/rcom/broadband/broadband_sme_plan.html

  • we chose Plan 2700. Costs Rs. 2700 per month, 600 kbps bandwidth and

unlimited usage. We got one Static IP for free. They levied the installation charges, but we had to pay Rs. 1000 as security deposit.

The support guys came and installed the Wireless transceiver(or radar,

or whatever) at the top of our office and it took the entire evening

for the setup to be ready. The wireless must be pointed at a Reliance tower, which is nearly 1km from our office. There must be no obstructions. It took two days for the Static IP to be assigned.

We experience good connectivity speeds - 68 kiloBytes per second

maximum - which is really good. For similar cost - Airtel/BSNL provide

only 30 kBps unlimited. There is no hidden charges(like modem rental or static IP) for the connection. Overall, it amounts to good value for money.

Since there is free Static IP - the connection is always on. I could find other reviews saying that it takes a long time to assign dynamic IP. They can try static IP for free to alleviate this.

If we want the same internet connection for two or more systems, then we have to purchase a router. We bought a NetGear Wi-Fi enabled router for Rs. 1800, and now our office is a Wi-Fi hotspot:-)

Sometimes, the internet connection terminates for no good reason. When this happens, don’t panic, and do the following(if you have the appropriate technical knowledge):

) Open your connection IP settings

) Note down your existing IP/Mask/Gateway

) Change IP: 192.168.1.2, Mask: 255.255.255.0, Gateway: empty

) Open Command Prompt

) Type: telnet 192.168.1.1

) Username: root , Password: telsimawl

) Type: sh bs - It will show list of towers

) Keep on typing sh bs until one of the towers shows "OPER"

) Thats it! Restore your original IP/Mask/Gateway

Its a simple trick, and no need to call the support guys for this. I also recommend you change the password from "telsimawl"(which is the default) to something else(and memorize it well) - to keep yourself safe from bandwidth thefts.

Medium Enterprises. I don’t know if this applies to home users -
