When I decided to take an health insurance for my parents I was so confused as to which company to go for due to the bad reviews I read on the internet about almost all the companies. The insurance business is not at all as much reliable in our country as in the western world. However, for old parents one cannot take a risk of being uninsured. So finally with a sceptical mind I bought Reliance health insurance after a lot of research. The biggest reason I went for them was their affordable premium rates compared to other insurance providers as we cannot take anybody into trust completely but atleast it would hurt less to be cheated if the premium is low.
After that I read so much of bad reviews about Reliance that I was always certain in case of claims we would never get a penny. However, Reliance proved me wrong and Im so happy with their service and the way my mothers cashless hospitalisation has been handled by the TPA. Within 48 hrs of intimation my TPA mediassist sent an approval of 15000 INR out of a total bill of 45000 INR and on the day of discharge they approved 85% of the bill.So we had to pay only the remaining 15% which I agree had to be settled by us as those were miscellaneous charges. For only 2 yrs of insurance where I paid around Rs.5000 premium each yr, they approved my medical bills of 35000.So now I know that its the way we make the claim friends why it gets approved or rejected. We need to be really informative about the entire procedure in order to get it correct. Most of the times due ti some loopholes claims get rejected and we get pissed off with the insurance company.
So as a happy customer I was looking forward to renew with Reliance again and I was expecting an increase in the premium as well that I was ready to pay, however, I was shocked when the renewal letter arrived. There was a 457% increase in my premium. My premium was hiked from 5000 to 27000. Im so disappointed with this behaviour of Reliance now. They are literally laying off customers by this strategy as they know that it is not possible for working class to bear such high premium rates. Now I dont know where and how will I manage an insurance for my old parents, As my father is more than 60 yrs, now no one will insure him also. I dont live in India to run around or look out for options. Now I am in such a big trouble and it is such a concern to have uninsured old parents back home.
So I come back to the same conclusion that health insurance is not a convenient option in our country and that is why majority of our citizens go uninsured unlike the developed countries where we cannot even think of a single day without insurance.
Thanks Anyway.
