JIO

Firstly let’s ask questions and understand whether JIO is an internet service provider or a telephone company, without going into the technical aspect.

Going into speed comparisons with other service providers and the cheapness is purely for the data buffs who need internet connectivity. For that you have the ISPs(Internet Service Providers) experienced enough to understand your specific needs and provide you that service.

Today on TV or in print media adverts, every single telecom player is only promoting its data service based on speed and another add-on. Why? Where is the information on’voice’ connectivity?

Let us not forget that they are a telecom company to primarily provide voice connectivity and add the internet facility as a secondary service.

JIO fails in this primary service miserably!

You struggle to make a call connect and nearly 90% of the times you do not get incoming calls, but will get an SMS alert of a missed call, but only to the extent of probably 50% of the attempts actually made by someone trying to call you. This too arrives anywhere from 15minutes to+2 hours later.

Picture this -

There is a crisis at your home or wherever and you are needed urgently. Poof, you cannot be reached even on your most expensive and coveted handset. Why? The JIO service provider is unable to provide voice connectivity and the alert coming into you via SMS, if it ever comes, is so late that you hold your head in regret, at no point wondering why you joined the JIO network who cannot provide you with the basic facility of’voice’!

Did anyone, with a technical bent of mind, challenge this? Or is because everyone is happy that they do not have to be desk-bound to a PC or carry a laptop/tablet to be’net’ connected since now it is on the phone. Or even more, they are content just because the’net’ is on and happening?

The mobile handset was and primarily still is an instrument designed to make calls. However, today it is used as a camera, web browser, TV, fund transfers, etc, etc, . Anything, but a telephone!

The customer service team can only do that much, firstly because they are not qualified enough nor experienced to handle questions that do not fall within the regular query basket. The escalation to the technical team does not yield any results as the team cannot do anything about it, thanks to the technology being used and then comes in the big "M". Money. No connectivity charges need to be shared with other service providers for the incoming calls. SMS pushes you to initiate and make the call, thereby eliminating any payouts!

Expanding customer base and shouting about it from the rooftops will not help in the long run. And will price slashing continue to further the expansion with no real service?

For the ones who rely on voice to stay connected, be it business or personal, will surely agree with me and that I am sure of. But, for the ones who use their handsets for everything else, but the voice - this review is not for you.
