I would like to share with my friends here an anecdote that will make my point clear. I was expected at the office and I was late, so I sent an SMS to my colleague:’’will b there in 10 mins’’. No delivery report. No probs, I got there and got busy with work. It was a long day. In the evening when I was returning home, I got an SMS. It was the delivery report of the morning’s message. Obviously surprised, my colleague called me up. ’’What? are you coming back to the office?!’’. I reminded him that my cell was Reliance. That was enough explanation.
This has not happened since then. Now most of the messages I send disappear in cyberspace. No delivery report even in a trillenium.
Now whenever my friends complain that they couldnt get through to me, I just say:’’Reliance hai yaar!’’. That suffices, no questions asked.
But I am not going to be so hard on them. Because the truth is, the rates(including hidden costs) really are cheap compared to most countries.
There have been hitches in the service, but that happens with every new set-up. I am willing to still give Reliance a chance, maybe because I want to be fair. And especially because I am stuck with them for the next three years!
I think that in the coming few years, the number of cellular subscribers will slightly come down. The remaining customers will be the ’’serious’’ ones. This is because the euphoria of walking around with a cell will diminish and only those who really need it and can afford it will stick to it. This will mean better service.
So, dont write the epithet of Reliance yet, just keep complaining!
