Hello All,
Ive been using RIM in Mumbai since May 2004.
What Ive observed is playing safe with all these providers is the only way for consumers to save ourselves.
May be you can also do the same thing.
I purchased LG 2130 (moonlight) model then priced at Rs.4500 (aah! Now you get a color screen for the same price) for a PREPAID connection.
Although Prepaid connection is costlier than Postpaid, it has very distinct advantages.
No billing mess. You are in full control of your usage. max liability is limited to your recharge coupon.
Instant checking of balance gives you liberty to check whether the rates applied are correct
You can change your plan every month. Need not rely on customer service requesting a plan change and get it changed only when you dont want it!
Multiple options available for recharge vouchers. You can even carry forward your previous months balance.
I had started with Rs. 330 RCV, then tried 199 also.
According to me, a mobile phone is only an Emergency Device.
Should not be used for normal calling for hours, etc. Typically I use it for others to connect to me. So basically for Incoming calls. For this purpose 199 card is sufficient for me with 50 talktime value.
Recently I shifted to a new house where no telephone was in place, so I opted for their 440 RCV that gives me unlimited talktime for other reliance cell phones and a talktime of 100. This works best if you have reliance cell phone at the other end whom you call frequently. As my brother was having reliance phone, this worked very well for me. Also many of my collegues have opted for reliance that only benefits me.
With recent merging of circles, connecting maharashtra and mumbai, I can even call any reliance phone within maharashtra for free with this 440 rcv
This way I am really very much satisfied with the service Im getting.
In the recent rain havoc in mumbai, reliance network was the only network running up and I could call my brother during that period. Mind you I could not connect to any landline, cell with Airtel, Orange, MTNL, Tata phones. I could access Tata phone after 2-3 retries. Since Tata and reliance uses CDMA technology, their network could sustain the traffic.
All in all, I would again like to say that, be aware of the services you are purchasing best fit your requirements and you will not have much trouble.
