Hi all !!!
After receiving a lot of queries regarding my previous review of Reliance IndiaMobile, Ive decided to have yet another go. Most of the queries I received are answered here for everyones benefit.
The package contains a headset, a desktop charger, a few manuals, and ofcourse the handset (mine was LG RD2030).
SMS isnt too exciting as they havent tied up with services like IndiaTimes, RediffMobile, Yahoo! Mobile, etc. It isnt sure whether theyll tie up. Messages were not delivered/received to/from other networks currently, but according to Reliance, this is expected to change by April. Anyway, messages from Reliance to Reliance were delivered instantly.
The 16 sound polyphonic ringtones does not have a composer, but you can download and save tones from the R-Tunes menu. A few English and Hindi tones are available.
There are two languages for display, viz. English and Hindi.
You can download pictures from R-Greetings and use them as wall paper.
Video quality isnt good at all as you can hardly recognise anything shown ! Some even asked me if they can watch live cricket as shown in the ad ! Well, you cant, though you can have a ball by ball update through a scrolling ticker on your screen.
Audio quality is just average.
WAP works quite OK as it does have good HTTP conversion. (Tip: if you cant open a site in the browser, surf to Google and choose Goto URL). The browser (jBrowser from Jataayusoft) doesnt have much features, which needs to be improved.
The R-World services are currently available for free till 31st March. Some of the menus are down at times. Only select content will be free after 31st March.
Problems with the phone: It gets over heated after using R-World for a while. Battery consumption is also high for using R-World . Reliance has addressed this issue and said its normal to become over heated after using Java based applications.
Roaming isnt clear as the service is not yet started. There could be a charge of Rs.30 for roaming in another SDCA (its not confirmed). Anyway, 3 adjoining SDCAs are considered as local and roaming could be free in those SDCAs. If you want to transfer your current home SDCA to another SDCA, you can re-provision it for a charge of Rs.100 per transfer.
You can use the phone as a modem as a modem and connect it to your computer, but the Data Cable Kit will be available by April only, through Reliance Webworld Stores. It will include software to synchronise data with your PC.
Issues like calling charges to different networks, roaming, internet, R-World charges, etc., are yet to be finalised as the servies are yet to start in April only. So its too early to do a complete evaluation. Maybe Ill come up with yet another review soon ! If you want to know anything more, SMS me at 3104015 (Reliance to Reliance only) or email me from the link on the left menu of this page. Thanks for reading :)
