Reliance sucks!!!

I had taken Reliance India Mobile at the time when it was launched. The have given sweet promises of 2Rs for any STD call which was the main attraction.

They needed address verification before they could activate my phone, after waiting for a week one guy has come to my office for it and after two days (on 9th day) my phone got activated. Now I cannot make STD calls, it needed separate activation. After a visit to Webworld I got my STD de-activated, after my first STD call. I was over my credit limit, just after speaking for 1.5 hours (Rs 180 in charges).

My ordeal started from there, I was asked for an upfront payment for whatever amount I expected to call. And they were not ready to guarantee the service even after that, since it was the ’’system logic’’ which decides the service continuity. After fighting with them for a month, I decided to quit. Here comes the clincher... they dont do termination at Webworlds, You need to go to Reliance office on a working day (Mon-Fri) between 9 to 5 to terminate the connection and I need to pay around Rs. 3000/- as handset price, eventhough they will take it back..

Then I started using RConnect, which I liked since it was through the CDMA mobile. It went fine for some time (now I dont have STD on this phone I am using it only for internet).

Time and again they will overbill, they have introduced additional charges (they promised no change in plans when I took the phone, but there was some fineprint which says after letting me know they could do whatever they want).

Lastly, my phone stopped working. I took it to LG service centre and they are asking for Rs. 1200/- for repairing the phone. And guess what, Reliance doesnot have any replacement options or discounts for a new handset.

I tried termination of service again. This time it was possible from Webworld, but they needed the charger of the phone which I didn’t have. I bought a new one for them, then they wanted the phone in a working condition (They took more than 30 minutes and me spending Rs. 150/- for charger to let me know, given the fact that I had told the reason of my cancellation being the handset not working). Since I have not completed 30 months using the phone (It was 29 months and 26 days)., the options for me was to repair the phone and use the hopeless service OR pay Rs. 2000/ for the handset and cancel the service OR wait for 4 more days for the bill for 30th month and terminate the service.

I am waiting for 2 more days, and I am also consulting a lawyer now for any possible compensation I could extract from Reliance.

Concerned Webworlds:

Vashi, NaviMumbai - I got my RIM connection from here.

Koramangala Bangalore - These guys were not able to activate my phone after paying the whole bill after I shifted to Bangalore

Jayanagar Bangalore - Almost screamed here, I was not allowed to terminate the RIM connection stating lame reasons

Reliance Sucks, if you are thinking mobile, run away from it
