I brought a Reliance Netconnect BB+ this year. It has been almost 5 months now since I bought this. It works quite good for me. I did not face any probs as reported by most users (on MS). It has never been 3.1 MBPS as they claim. But ~400 Kbps - I think its quite ok for what I pay.
I am in 499 Plan. It has 10GB download in Night (10PM to 6AM). Day browsing charges are 0.50Paise/Min. Since the speed is quite good and the this is 1min pulse (in day), if you browse for 10min, you pay only 5rs. I have checked the billing and actuals. There are no deviations. I log in to the following URL
every time after I finish browsing and copy the online usage details and check if it is correct (It has been correct all these months). I have installed NetWorx on my PC to monitor bandwidth. The online usage details from the above site is quite exhaustive with start and end session times, separate Download and Upload counter data/ Unbilled amount/ Voice, data usage. You can pay online also.
Customer service has been quite responsive. I dont know about how it is for others, but for me this has been a very GOOD SERVICE till date. (I even got a waiver of 500 rs second month)CONS: The charges after the "Plan Limit" is very HIGH, Rs 2 per MB. Even opening Webpages (with lots of pics, flash content) cost more than 1 MB easily. So if you just open few pages you download few MBs actually and the cost meter raises very fast. You may think you did not download anything ! but it is actually (cost is not only for download but for uploads also !)
TIP: Never cross your plan Limit, else upgrade the plan.
Existing R BB+ Users:
Try out installing NetWorx https://softperfect.com/products/networx/ (there are lots of software of this sort) and monitor your bandwidth usage. (If using Networx - define on peak off peak hours, set data limits on on peak off peak hours, set alerts when you cross limits, ) If you have other BB connections also check the tracking is done on individual connections.
Regularly login to https://bill.reliancecommunications.co.in/webapp/portal/servlet/LoginServlet download the usage data as CSV in to excel files. (username should be prefixed with 0 and default password is 123456, you have to register first) Do this before billing date, because after that these details are not available (Have this data in hand, so that in case of a discrepancy you can speak with the customer care with this "data usage" data on hand)
Check on usage by others without your knowledge (there is an option to lock the USB device)
Pay your bills promptly (very Important, put a remainder on your calender)
If you are on "Data based plans" Do not connect in 3.1 Mbps mode instead choose the lower bandwidth mode - where-ever applicable. (Default is hybrid mode, this will try connecting to 3.1mbps mode first, if not possible will connect to lower bandwidth mode) This will avoid web pages from downloading large stuff very fast before you stop it.
Happy wireless surfing !
Extra Info: Please visit the following blog post to configure this device with Ubuntu Linux
No virus executes itself in Linux, so browse/ download happily in Linux platform. I have installed both OS in my PC. When you are in Ubuntu, you can access Windows drive, still logged on to Linux. so you can copy the downloaded files safely after you make sure it is no VIRUS stuff.
