Reliance netconnect broadband+,fast and handy

I purchased the reliance broadband netconnect+ last Wednesday. The delivery guy reached my place at 9 PM and took the required documents from me.I was promised that my device would be activated in 2 days max.the next day I didn’t get any call from reliance(I was told that I would get a verification call within 24 hours of buying).

On Friday noon I got a call from reliance guy asking me if I was home and if he could come to my home address for verification.I found it ridiculous as I had already told the delivery guy that I would be in office during working hours. The guy who’s supposed to do my verification told me to leave the house rent agreement with the security guard if I left home anytime the next day.On Saturday I was home and waiting for the verification guy to come. But nobody showed up.Then I called the reliance shop.He checked my name and told me that the verification would be done by Saturday night and my number would be active immediately after verification was done.At 9:30 PM I called the reliance shop once again and asked if the service was active on my usb modem. The person hung up on me rudely saying that it would be active in 1 hour.

I called the reliance customer care at 11 PM to check if the verification had been done.I was told that they had no information on my number. At that moment I realized that the guy from reliance shop lied to me.They had not even sent my documents and application form to their office yet.

I didn’t get any call from reliance on Sunday(I never expected it to be honest). On Monday evening I called the reliance shop and the guy told me everything had been done from their side and it should have been activated by then. After 15 mins I got a call from the reliance dealer that they had talked to the customer care and solved the problems and I was told to try activating the card after 15 Mins. Thus I never got a clue where the problem was.

I had bought the white huwaei ec168 modem. The installation was pretty easy.I chose the hsd mode in network options.I tried to activate it but the message showed that’activation failed’.I was totally angry with the way things had gone since I purchased the usb device. The customer care was saying they had no information on this number, the reliance dealer was saying that my device was already active. After sometime I thought of giving it another try before I went to sleep. This time I changed the network mode to CDMA1x n tried to activate it.Bingo There came a voice message.Even though a pop up message came that the activation process was unsuccessful and call the customer care, my device was activated.Yea, after having 5 horrible days I finally got my device working.

It’s time to check if this 3.1 MBPS capable device produced the promised speed. I opened speedtest.net and checked the speed against the Mumbai Server. The download speed was 1.2 MBPS and upload speed was 0.5 MBPS.I tried to download small files using internet download manager and utorrent(for torrents). The speed was pretty amazing. The max down speed was 230 KBPS.It’s very nice to see such speed after using airtel 256 KBps broadband for a year which at max produced 40 KBPs download speed.I have checked speedtest.net for a few times to check the variation of speed. It was within the range of 0.8-1.6 MBPS(download speed).

I chose the 1GB plan with the 199 addon pack for 10 GB download limit during night time. But they said that the addon pack would be available from 15th may.I called the reliance customer care and asked about the 199 addon pack. The answer was it would be available after 30th May(btw the reliance website still shows that the addon pack will be available from 15th may).Yea, that’s reliance for you.You have to consider yourself very lucky if you could get what’s promised to you.One more thing you need to check regularly is the data usage on reliance website.Check it on a daily basis to control the net-usage and avoid huge bills. It’s pretty funny that reliance had named the 10 GB limit plan as "UNLIMITED" a month ago on their website.

I must mention that the connection has been pretty stable expect for a couple of times where I didn’t get signals for HSD mode.I just hope that I won’t get any connection problems in the future as their customer support is the worst of all.And go for the huwaei modem. It’s much better than the ugly black device from ZTE.

My verdict: A very good buy for those who travel thruout India regularly.
