Movie Review
Reservoir Dogs
Spoiler Free
Every now and then comes a great and remarkably different film. Reservoir Dogs is one of those films. I admit that the title (Reservoir Dogs) is somewhat misleading while the actors (and their acting), being the strongest point of the movie, are not as famous as they should be now that the movie is over ten years old.
Quentin Tarintino has created a masterpiece about a group of criminals who have pulled a job-gone-absolutely-wrong. As the story dwells on, the group starts to suspect the fact that one of them is an undercover cop; a rat. The way the screenplay plays out, I can almost guarantee that you will be mesmerized by the unexpected revelation.
In my opinion, the movie has led up to a staggering amount of follow ups and rip-offs from its brilliantly structured plot and its great way/timing of narration. Also, I agree that it should have at least gotten nominated for best picture and director by the Academy Awards, but that doesnt seem to bother me much since most critics are a bunch of idiots who prefer Shakespeare in Love over classics like Saving Private Ryan (also preferring Cuba Gooding Jr over Edward Norton: wrong, wrong, wrong...).
Overall this movie has superb acting (who else but Harvey Keitel, Tim Roth, and Michael Madsen can play roles like this), a mastermind plot , great direction (especially from a first-timer), great screenplay (which is played out in mostly a non-chronological order), and mind-numbing twists. The only drawback seems to be that the soundtrack isnt as great as Pulp Fiction’s (which is Quentin Tarintinos self-inspired second-crime-movie), and the fact that the immense swearing and violence might put off some people (although I couldnt care less, even whilst being only 14 years old).
