Revival A healthy revived Indian tradition

Rd June 2012

Revival Indian Thali, Crawford Market

The Revival Indian thali is really good. The entire thali costs 355 Rs if you don’t have a tiffin, and if you have a tiffin, then it’s some 25 bucks lesser. The first thing you notice about the restaurant is the décor and ambience. It looks easily like a frequently visited restaurant. And that’s true; it has taken the place of Rajdhani very well in Sheikh Memon Street. The thali has 4 vegetables, 10 chapatis, rice, dal, pickle, chutney, and 1 snack item and 1 sweet item.

It is believed that the food is supervised by the dean of SNDT and has a very high hygiene and health content. I did a search on the origins of the Barot family, the owners, and I found out in Wiki that they are genealogists or like the Mehtas of yore, and are very close to the Bhatts. Revival has only one other branch at Lokhandwala, Andheri West. Although so many years passed without us visiting the place just under our home due to some reason or the other, I’m so glad that finally I have discovered Revival.

They also have mini thalis, Jain thalis, to which you can add items and pay accordingly. If you take the whole thali, it should last you one whole day, i.e, two meals for at least 3 persons.

I think Revival is as good, if not better than Chetana, owned by the Aryas. The food is light, tasty, healthy, and the flavor lasts a long time. Also, the helpings are rather good, so you can never leave hungry. They also have some delightful items on sale like a copper thali etc for 5000 bucks. The flavor is Rajasthani all the way, and the dal with a jaggery twist is to die for. The veggies are also cool without oil, and their green veggies like chauli, soya etc are made with a lot of taste.
