I believe I am a little late in writing the review as lot has been written about this book and even I believe a movie will also be soon made out of it. But then I felt like sharing a few impressions that I had while reading this book.I will skip re-intro of Chetan Bhagat as there is no need for that now.
Before actually plunging into the review, I will make a disclaimer that I, as a reader can take a few excesses in a novel, but not something totally out of the world and cliched and filmy to the core. For example, Chetans FPS was very natural, except for a few dramatic incidents. But then it is fine, after all if everything happens like in real life, then it wont be a novel or story.
To a very great extent , 2 states, a modern version of Ek Duje keliye is natural except for a few scenes here and there. I believe R2020 finds a company with ON@CC as over the top filminess or melodrama .3 Mistakes falls somewhere in between. And I am somebody who likes FPS.Natural, realistic with a little bit of drama without which of course a novel doesnt shape up
Having said that let me start my review.
Plot : Gopal, an average student, fails to secure to get a good rank in AIEEE and JEE while his friend Raghav does that. While Raghav gives up pursuit of a cushy job and takes up the corrupt system, Gopal becomes part of the same after being the representative of a corrupt MLA.
In between, comes Aarti, whom Gopal loves, but who(thinks she) is in love with Raghav.
What happens to them and who wins over Aarti forms the story.
Pros : Easy writing style and free flow of language
Something called story exists(yep..reading the books of so many young writers these days, I feel a novel having a story is a great thing.)
Cons: Niharika, 24 is not properly established. After having it with Gopal, how can she just go like that and marry Raghav
Too much Vulgarity
Lot of scenes are hard to believe.
Raghavs character is not properly moulded.
Hope Chetan comes up with something better next time
